is full screen Theater Mode supported for Radeons?

is full screen Theater Mode supported for Radeons?

When I enable Theater mode full screen, the TV Out from my Radeon is supposed to display the overlay full screen rather than windowed. This works with Zoomplayer.

It doesn't work with SageTV (either 1.4 or 2). What I'm seeing in 2 right now is that I get an overlay error when this setting is enabled.

Failed connecting video stream to the Overlay Mixer

Which display do you have SageTV on? I haven't played with Theater Mode in a while but it seems like you have to have the source on a different display than the Theater mode screen (ie Sage on monitor, Mirrored display on TV).

VGA monitor is primary display. TV is cloned.

In the overlay clone mode options, I chose Theater Mode and Set Video Aspect Ratio = Full Screen (as opposed to Same As Source).

As I said, Zoomplayer seems to work the way I would expect. I once briefly got v1.4 to do it the other day, then somehow things got ugly (starting with the same overlay error that I quoted above).

Since then, I was getting the windowed overlay from 1.4 or the overlay error.

With v2 I just get the overlay error.

I forgot Theater mode only worked in clone mode, I still remember how it worked on my GF4 MX which worked in extended mode. Not sure what to tell you.

I'm downloading Catalyst 4.1 right now. Perhaps that will help.

Upgrading did not change anything... however....

It turned out that Zoomplayer and SageTV are doing the same thing. Neither will begin to play video when the theater mode is activated. They complain about an inability to connect pins.

But, if you begin to play the video with both displays set to primary, and then switch the TV to cloned, it works!

So that's a start. Things get ugly if you decide you want to watch something else, b/c then you have to switch back to dual primary displays, start the video and then back to TV as secondary.

Since I've found that Zoomplayer is suffering the same symptoms, I'm ready to declare that this isn't so much a SageTV bug as it is a DirectShow/Radeon quirk.

I hope that Jeff can figure out a way to make theater mode work from the start as this routine is rather annoying.

Things are a little worse than I thought. I set up keyboard shortcuts to switch back and forth. When I use them, I lose the SageTV GUI (screen goes black).
