Poor video quality

I got my system set up today with a PVR-500 hooked up with coax and a mediaMPV I got everyone talking to each other and started watching some tv. The quality seemed low even though I had it set to the second best quality, dvd standard. I increased the quality to full mpeg and the picture is still not even close to the quality of the picture from the cable box or my series one tivo.

I have played with the brightness, contrast ect but that does not help the overall picture.

I went right for the MVP so I could bypass all of the software decoder issues figuring it would give me the best picture. I cant imagine that my standards of picture quality are higher than the majority of others here. Anyone else with a similar problem having the same problem.

the only real issue I'm aware of was a bad batch of 500s, but that was over a year ago, http://forums.snapstream.com/vb/showthread.php?t=33675 . The coax tuners were junk, but RCA/S-video capturing was fine, so you may want to try hooking up the STB to the 500 and see what the picture looks like.

Otherwise, I'd try to watch some other content and see if it is a display problem or a recording problem.

Thanks for that info,

This 500 board is used so that could very well be the problem, I will it out and see what happens.
