Standalone...
Does anyone know about a "Standalone Player" that I could use on my laptop?
Situation: I'm starting to travel a lot, and my laptop doesn't have a TV-Card for it, so I was try to find a "Standalone Player" for my shows and that would be able to read and process the ".edl" files, so I can still skip commercials. Thanks, - Ian Last edited by ianscrap; 07-29-2011 at 10:47 AM. |

You might want to investigate using videoredo to edit the commercials out. You can have comskip generate .vprj files, which are the project files for videoredo. Then you can open the .vprj file in videoredo which will show you all the cuts that will be made. It only takes about 3 or 4 minutes for videoredo to process the files. Th added benefit, of course, is that the resulting files are significantly smaller.
There is a plugin here that does this withn Sage, however I still use my batch files from my days at GBpvr to automatically remove the commercials from everything I record. |

thanks for the response. I actually use ShowAnalyzer. Can ShowAnalyzer generate the ".vprj " files? Would you by chance know the name of the Sage plugin that you mentioned that does this? Thanks, - Ian Last edited by ianscrap; 07-29-2011 at 10:47 AM. |

Yes. I use ShowAnalyzer to produce both .vprj and .edl files.

Well, I went and found mplayer, but mplayer doesn't seem ti like Vista very much. There was a different front-end project that was Aero Compatible, but video was choppy.
I tried working with the regular mplayer, but no matter what I tried I couldn't get it to recognize the EDL files. Any idea if there's a setting to tell mplayer that it should be using EDL files when it's playing videos? Any other known Apps that play videos, read/process the EDL Files? Thanks for the info. I've got the zoomplayer installed, but do you know what type of file zoomplayer needs in order to skip the commercials? (EDL, TXT, XML, etc...) I'm using ShowAnalyzer, so I can just adjust the needed file type in it's GUI. Right now I have all my MPG files with their corresponding EDL files. Last edited by ianscrap; 07-29-2011 at 10:56 AM. |

Oh, BTW, Can the Zoomplayer Standard skip the commercials or do I have to buy the Professional version?

Erik, Thanks for the reply. Here's what I got... File Type: *.CHP (easliy generated with Showanalyzer) **Must Have** ZoomPlayer Professional Trial (but eventually have to get full) (Standard will not skip commercials using *.CHP files, only Professional or higher) I couldn't get auto skip to work, but simply hitting the "Next Chapter" button, the commercials were skipped with no problem. Erik, you've been a great help. Thank you, I really appreciate it. - Ian Last edited by ianscrap; 07-29-2011 at 10:57 AM. |

You can also install GBPVR on your laptop
Its free Only use the video library playback option. When pvrx2.exe (the userinterface of GBPVR) sees a video recording with a .edl file it will automatically read it and skip the commercials. No need to set up recording sources or run the recording service It will work out of the box (if you have the right codecs installed to playback your recordings in windows media player)
