DVD / MPEG-2 CSS Decoder - Vista Basic

Like many, I found out that there is no protected DVD playback in some versions of Windows Vista without a 3rd party decoder..

RE SageTV 6.3.5 : "There was a DVD Error in playback, Details: Sage: PlaybackException: ERROR (-8,0x2): There is a problem playing the DVD content due to Macrovision or CSS."

I am contemplating one of the 3rd party decoders from Sonic/Roxio, Cyberlink or Corel.. They all teamed up and will bestow their decoder for ~$15. Whee!

Of the 3 I am interested especially in any experiences with the Cyberlink decoder.. I really don't want any Sonic/Roxio trash on the system and Corel seems to have become much more of a brand/marketing group these days.

Just wanting the ability to playback DVD rentals on the SageTV machine, preferably at the 720p resolution of it's (15p D-Shell SVGA) monitor.

Also since this is a cheapie computer without much possibility of a better video device the larger LCD/Plasma I'll be hooking to it will also be using the analog 15p SVGA connection.

I read that the macrovision could perhaps give me problems at a decent resolution, would this apply to a 15p SVGA type connected display?

I'm hoping to make use of the included Windows Vista Basic and would love to find a solution that would cover Vista and XP (EG: a DVD player application) but it seems these programs (with Sage usable decoders) come as Vista Only Vs. WinXP/2K/etc.. Just in case I just decide to trash the Vista and put 98/2K or XP on the machine.

I'm aware of some of the alternatives but frankly most of the trash from Hollywood isn't worth the effort or risk to circumvent CSS or Macrovision.
