Capabilities/How to use
OK So from reading a bunch on here I couldnt find a "read here for dummies" link about how to set this up and what it can do.
What I am looking for is MCE-like TV recording capabilities with the ability to watch it remotely, as well as control it remotely. Especially if it also has a guide. In WHS of course. Is this something SageTv can do? I have a tuner card i can put into the server if it will work Last edited by Bose; 02-11-2008 at 07:35 PM. |

Did you try the FAQ link at the top of the page? Among other options, that will take you to the SageTV Product FAQ.

Ah thanks Greg, that helped a bunch, the only thing i'm not seeing is interactivity between this and Windows Home Server, I've seen the add-in, and i've seen a few posts from other people about it, but i can't seem to wrap my head around the interface with WHS, can it be used standalone on a headless WHS box? IE: Can i set up recordings, view the guide, etc, remotely through the WHS console, as well as have the WHS computer store all recordings to stream live to my mac remotely?
*edit* Sorry for all the extra questions, but I want to know it will work before installing on the server, I always want to make sure something will work before I put it on the server as other people rely on it as well. Last edited by Bose; 02-11-2008 at 11:22 PM. Reason: Adding more |

I don't use WHS myself, so I can't walk you through the specifics of setting it up. But the general idea is that you can install Sage on a headless WHS box, run it as a service, and administer it remotely using Placeshifter or SageTVClient. I believe people have also had success using Remote Desktop or VNC for administration. The WHS box schedules recordings, stores them in the folders you specify (which can be on that same machine or on any network file server), and streams them to clients on demand. Any client running the SageTV UI (i.e. Placeshifter, SageTVClient, or a SageTV media extender) has full abilities to configure capture devices, browse the program guide, set up recordings, etc. as well as being able to play back the stored recordings.
