Exclamation Problem fixed: Distorted Netflix trailer video

We just got work back from SageTV support that they will have a fix for this problem in the next sageTV build.

Im attaching another picture... it looks like it almost has no color with diagonal lines going across it, almost like its an old fashioned TV with bad analog over-the-air reception.

Is this a known issue?

Exclamation NetFlix_SageMC_2.1a still doesnt include this file

Morgan, I'm not sure if you know this, but version 2.1a still contains the broken version of netflixviewer.exe.. which doesnt allow for silverlight player to start up properly. The only way I can see people even using silverlight with this plugin is to manually update the file from this post.

Uhhh no I didn't. Thanks for discovering that. The new one was not in the distribution directory. I have update the download zip file to include the updated version.

Have you used the "SilverLight" selection?
I have not upgraded my Netflix account, so I think I can still use the WMplayer.
Hmm.. I tried to use the SilverLight option and I get the same results as the WMPlayer. The app starts, and I see it in the task bar, but no video. Here is a pic of the desktop when I click on the app via Vncviwer.

is the black area the actual app opening? If not, do you have the sagetv service set to allow it to interact with the desktop? That was my holdup when the icon would show in the taskbar but the IE window would not appear.

Gary,

Could you set the viewer option back to Custom Viewer, try to start another video, and then let me know what you get in NetflixViewer.txt? You have recently run the netflix viewer right from the netflix website recently?

The app starts, and I do allow the service to interact with the desktop, and it does launch the app, as in the picture. Before that I could only see the process in task manager (ctrl + alt +del). When I get home I ll try Morgan's suggestion.

I have gone to the netflix site recently (last week), and I think once it asked me if I would like to upgrade.. but I have read in mulitple places that the upgrade Degrades the video quality.

Alright I have tried going back to Custom Viewer, and started up the same video as before from my placeshifter... same problem.

*Update* Woohoo !!!! For giggles, I decided to reimport the SageMC and Netflix Xml files again, and for some reason it works with the "Custom Viewer". Its so wonderful. Thanks Morgan!

Great!

I know it would be really nice if there was an easy way to make the plugin re-importable without requiring a clean STV and prevent problems like this.

Okay, its next week :)

Hey Brainbone, I'm happy to see while you were gone, SageTV was able to fix the distorted trailer video.. which will be available soon in the next public beta.

There's one minor fix we need from you.. Can you please upload a version that shuts down when video is finished? Maybe, Morgan can then repackage a new download with all the latest changes.

Morgan,

Do you see any problems if I change netflix_silverlight_control.exe to simply close after stop (10,100)?

Brain, that should be fine. Once I send Stop we go back to normal operation.

With the newest version I finally got closer. When I click the view now, I got a message popping up on my machine about "Windows media player cannot connect to the internet" and it tells me I have to run Internet Connection Wizard. This is on vista, which doesn't have an internet connection wizard. All it was trying to do was update the usage rights. It's a bug in WMP where it thinks it needs to run internet connection wizard, so you just need to add a reg key

These are registry edits, be careful, it may harm your system

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Connection Wizard]
"Completed"=dword:00000001

My problem was that I run sage under the localsystem account, which mean I can't edit this key, so I had to edit

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-18\Software\Microsoft\Internet Connection Wizard]
"Completed"=dword:00000001

Now I get sound but no video, still working on it, but I'm much closer now. I'll post some log info once I run out of ideas, but it something on my system I'm sure.

Make sure to checkmark "Allow service to interact with desktop" and then restart the service. You should then get your video.

It already is. I do get the netflix screen, saying buffering, and the bars at the top, but there isn't any video showing. So the netflix player has started, since I get sound, and a timer bar, but there isn't any actual video playing.

Ya, I have had an issue with this as well. If you launch the player from the SageTV server and then later on you start it up on an extender.. There are 2 running, and I have had the SageTV service crash from this.

Is this over the loop back or the server itself ? If it is the loopback, make sure you have the S-Video be the primary outbound video.

From first post:
  • Custom Viewer - Full control of video playback using WMP. WIll not work if your NetFlix account is set for SilverLight.
  • Internet Explorer - Will launch the internet explorer with not control of playback by Sage.
  • SilverLight - Will start movie playback with Internet Explorer and allow Sage control of playback through netflix_silverlight_control.exe.

I only have the option for custom and internet explorer. I have ie 7 and silverlight installed. Custom doesn't work as stated. IE works but can't control playback as stated. So how do I get the third option to show up?

It is over the loopback. Again, I see the buffering messages from netflix, with the green bars at the top, but the actual movie contents don't show.

Make sure you have downloaded and installed the latest version of netflix plugin from the first post. It doesnt always work if you just import the new netflix stvi. Soo...

Since the silverlight option is only on the new version, so you will need to go back to the default SageTV3.xml.

Once back at the default state, reimport the SageMC, then the Netflix stvi.

You should see it as a new playback option now.
