EDL file inverter for Super Bowl Commercials

Having watched the game and skipped the commercials last night, tonight I wanted to go back and watch the commercials but skip the game. Long story short, I was bored and wrote a pointless little program that you can drag an .edl file onto and it will generate an inverted edl.rev file. Enjoy

That's funny -- I don't watch the game, but I was joking with someone here on Sunday that maybe it would be good to have "gameskip" in order to mark out all the game content so you could just watch the commercials.

Amazing. Now how can those networks complain now that you can strip out the mindless reality TV content and get straight to the commercials

Pretty nice work regardless.

I could have used this last night. That's cool. This needs to be put as a sticky or in the download sections for the next superbowl.

I used comskip and videoredo last year to cut out the game and save an mpeg of just the commercials. I just loaded up the comskip file in videoredo and then "inverted cuts". Save the resulting mpeg and you only have commercials. Burned it to a DVD and gave it to my mom so she could see all the superbowl commercials.

If you use Bob's amazing video editor thinger it's very easy to invert the commercial breaks in your .edl by adding or removing a single cut point.

Mick.

Edit: Doh. Just re-read the op and hadn't noticed that e.p. has written an inverter. Nice.

Just bumping this thread for this weekend. I didn't try it last year, but will give it a go this year.

We'll be over at a friends house for much of the game, and inevitably, someone is talking during the commercials. Now I can just watch them (easily) at home later on.

While I love the idea "as a concept", I can't believe that many of you actually don't watch the game live. Watching with a bunch of friends and screaming "shhhh!!!!" when they cut to a commercial is part of the fun.

Of course, if you don't care about the Super Bowl at all (like Opus), I guess this would be handy.

Since the game is on NBC this year, what I would like to see is a "Madden-skip" where it would automatically mute the volume any time John Madden talks. Of course, you might as well just shut off the volume entirely because he never shuts up...

Well, speaking for myself, we'll be watching the game at a friends house, but we also like to watch the commercials. Since we'll miss some of the commercials during the actual game, we can watch them later - without having to watch the game again.

This just makes watching the commercials much easier! (never thought I'd type that!)

I didn't save the code (cause its terrible ), but if you really want it just download the .exe, open it as an archive with 7zip, and then you should be able to find the .pl script somewhere inside.

Anti Superbowl Detector

So I'm curious, is anyone using this "Anti-Superbowl" detector this year?

it seems the best advertisers were skipping the game this year anyways, so there is less of a need for this than ever.

Here we are again. Superbowl time and I'm wondering if this little "app" ever made it to the Plugin Manager for version 7?

Seems to be working now. Hasn't been accessed in a while, SourceForge prolly needed a bit to spin up the old tape drives and pull it out of retirement
