Question 2 Hardware issues...

I have 2 problems:
  • Getting my ATI TV wonder remote to work in SageTV suite.
  • Getting encrypted QAM signals to work on my Hauppauge WinTV HVR-1800 I know that I need a CableCard, but is there a device that plugs into the coax cable, decrypts it, and sends it on?

I really just need an external decrypter. NOT a cable box. They're overpriced and I don't want to use it.

What you are looking to do with cabelcard won't work. Google for OCUR and you'll see the issues. It's only supported on OEM versions of Vista Media Center, and will not work with anything else.

What I'm talking about is an external QAM decrypter, separate of the computer. (Basicly a little box that the encrypted signal goes into, and the decrypted comes out.) BTW, if these boxes exist, they need advertisement!

For QAM, you can use the HD HomeRun from Silicon Dust (http://www.silicondust.com).

I don't need the ability to play unencrypted QAM. I already have that. I need to play encrypted QAM, something that my card won't support onboard. Once again, I need a way to decrypt QAM WITHOUT my computer or a cable box.

Sorry, I missed the encrypted bit. I don't think there is a way to do this in Sage or anything other than with a cablecard solution and MCE.

The OCUR is an external box that does what you want via cablecard, but it will not work outside of a very limited set of environments microsoft has deemed appropriate.

What you are asking for doesn't exist, and that's why there are no ads for them. :-)
