system requirements

hi,

I'm trying to run on the absolute minimum and until now that went reasonably well - motherboard is a Via EPIA M10000 (old PII equivalent) as a headless recording server. I'm testing the plugin and SD video works nicely however I cannot get HD to work.

Will this only work if the recording server is able to render the video? If I just receive the data it should work (I'm using TT-3650 USB) - if the system checks something is 'playing' in dvbviewer then I guess I'm stuck.

I have an issue anyway as my clients are XBMC on XBOX so HD will not work on them but it would be nice if the server part was up to it.

Thanks!
Jan

DVBViewer Recorder doesn't require that DVBViewer render the video except if you are using a soft CAM (DVBViewer plugins only works when the playback graph is active).

For HD you should check that you are using the TS file format within the DVBViewer Recorder plugin.

Stéphane.

There is something you might want to test for avoiding audio / video in DVBViewer during all the recording (this and also benefits from upcoming feature of the recorder like creating edl file to skip commercials based on subtitles data)

DVBviewer now features a recording service. The recording service can also be used with DVBViewer Recorder if you DO NOT send the DVBViewer timers to the DVBViewer recording service.

The SoftCam plugins may work with the DVBViewer recording service without requiring the audio / video => this is something to test (I can't because I have a real CAM). The only thing I can tell you is that DVBViewer recorder works if you use the DVBViewer recording service (provided you don't send timers to the recording service)

Stéphane.

DVBViewer Recoder 2.4 now allows real time playback of DVB subtitles (as well as Teletext subtitles) in SageTV.

I included in the DVBViewer Recorder config & logs directory the STVi plugin you must use to have the DVB subtitles real time playback within SageTV. This STVi replace the current STVi for SMI caption playback.

Stéphane.

Hi Stephane

Since I installed ver 2.4 I've lost connection after to my tuners after a periode resulting in missed recordings. A restart fix it but after 12 hours problems again.

I thing its a standby issue. After resume no connection to tuners. Could it be? Fits the pattern

It's possible. Though version 2.4 didn't change anything except allowing dump of the DVB subtitles (an error here could crash the service...). What version were you running before 2.4?

Also send me the content of your Config & Log folder at lmgestion@hotmail.com.

Do you run DVBViewer Recorder on the same machine as SageTV?

Regards,
Stéphane.

I'm back to ver 2.1 now (from tonight). Lets see if that solves it. The recorder and sage server is on the same machine.

THanks for looking in to this. I've sent you the logs and config folder

Teletext subtitles not working

Hi,
I have managed to get DVB subtitles to work but am struggling with Teletext. What fields do I need in the Configuration ?

I have added 199 as the "TTX Sub Page" for swedish subtitles but nothing is extracted.

I am using version 2.4 of the recorder.

Page number 199 is correct for swedish TTX subs. Have you restarted the recorder after entering the page number in the recorder conifguration utility?

Note: the SMI file isn't produced until some TTX content was found.

If you indeed have restarted the recorder, I'll need some sample of your TS recording (50 ~ 100 MB) that you can put somewhere on the Internet for me to download.

Regards,
Stéphane.

Stéphane, message sent.

The recorder has been restarted and the TTX subtitles work in VLC but there are two to choose from in each language.
You can see for yourself in the file.
The last one of the two is the correct.

Stéphane,

I am using your network encoder with the SkyUK HD channels although I am getting a voice commentary over the top of the audio stream on some channels. It seems to be for the visually impaired as it (the voice) comments on the action on screen, either that or I'm hearing voices again.

How can I ensure that the network encorder selects AC3 English from DVBViewer?

For information if I watch the channel in DVBViewer I can manually select AC3.ENG which resolves the problem.

Many thanks,

David

You can do the same in SageTV: switching the audio channel during playback (you have a language option in the playback osd).

You may also be able to edit the channel definition in DVBViewer to remove the audio track you don't want to be recorded ever. But it will requires that you don't allow channel auto-update in DVBViewer (Also if you edit the channel in DVBViewer make sure that it is still selected in the DVBViewer Recorder lineup)

Note: sometime SageTV will not be able to change the audio track...

Regards,
Stéphane.

Stéphane,

SageTV does not seem to allow me to select the launguage stream, I'm assuming because it does not have full control of DVBViewer.

Tonight I will try unselecting Auto Update and adjusting the launguage in DVBViewer's channel editor, I did try that before but I had auto update on.

I'll let you know how I get on.

David

No this has nothing to do with SageTV having full control of DVBViewer (it never has). When a recording (TS, MPEG) does have multiple audio streams (wether a live recording or a scheduled one), SageTV does allow changing the audio stream.

To do this, during playback, right click with your mouse on the video or press "Esc" on your keyboard, the ODS will popup and you'll have a "Audio Languages" button.

If the "Audio Languages" button is not there it's either because:

* you are using an old (very) version of SageTV
* DVBViewer is recording only one audio stream (in the DVBViewer Settings / Options / Recorder, check "All audiotracks")

Otherwise the "Auto-update" feature of DVBViewer is in the "Channel" menu.

Regards,
Stéphane.

Private data length too long

Hi Stephane

The recorder gives me these warnings:

"ts private data length is too long (###)"
"ts payload is -##"

What does it mean?

Thanks

Rasmus

This means that for the recorder the recording is corruputed (if you have only two or three warnings, that's fine; usually when the recording is really corrupted you'll have hundreds of these in a few seconds).

From my understanding: this happens when DVBViewer has not flushed correctly the data to the disk in such a way that the transport stream packets are not aligned anymore (or filled with incorrect data).

For instance, if I connect to my HTPC machine during a recording with VNC, I get these warnings and the recording is corrupted (when I exit the VNC session : the warning stops)

Regards,
Stéphane.

I was connected via remote desktop but has never seen this before. There were many hundred of these warnings as you describe.

anything I can do about it?

I don't think so. Does it happen very often? If you are sure this is remote desktop, then you'll have to avoid using it while recording.

What's funny is that specific conditions are required for DVBViewer to act like this.

For instance with the VNC issue: if I connect with VNC while recording, the recording is corrupted. If I connect with VNC then make a recording, the recording is fine.

Another one, I update my ATI graphic card driver. With this driver whenever LM Remote KeyMap display the volume OSD (it is a transparent OSD) while a video is being playing back, the video stutter when the osd is about to be displayed (when the osd is displayed it's fine). What's funny is if I display the volume osd when the video being played back is a live recording: the recording will be corrupted. But if the video being played back is not a live recording (but a recording is actually in progress), recordings are not corrupted...

So it's very hard to know what's going on with DVBViewer here. I suspect a buffering issue (to disk most probably, to memory perhaps).

Regards,
Stéphane.

Hi Stéphane,

I tried to install this on my newly setup htpc but I always get this error message during installation:

Error 1001. This access control list is not in canonical form and therefore cannot be modified

OS is Windows 7 Home Premium.

Any ideas?

Regards,
Oliver

Edit: Forget it: I found your post in the other thread (XMLTV importer). I edited the permissions for C:\ProgramData\LM Gestion\DVBViewer Recorder and it worked.

This usually mean you have corrupted premissions on your system, especially in the C:\ProgramData folder where the setup is trying to change the permissions.

Setup creates a folder here "C:\ProgramData\LM Gestion\DVBViewer Recorder", then attempts to change permissions on this folder (current permissions being inherited from C:\ProgramData) by adding "Authenticated Users" / "Full Control".

Usually the C:\ProgramData folder does have this in its ACL:

* CREATOR OWNER / Special Permissions (basically Full Control)
* SYSTEM / Full Control
* Administrators / Full Control
* Users / Read & Execute; List content / Read

Regards,
Stéphane.
