custom resolution ? on extender for small widescreen shows
battlestar galactica is currently recording from sci fi channel in non-hi-def (can't wait for that component doodad <G>.) It is presented in widescreen.
When I play it back on the extender there are black bars top and bottom and left and right. None of the 3 resolution or zoom modes (zoom a, zoom b, stretch, fill etc?) give me what I want which is stretch but keep aspect ratio accurate and fill (or nearly fill) the screen. How do I do this? thanks

You need to use a custom Aspect Ratio. See http://forums.sage.tv/forums/showthr...2&postcount=10
I think the letterbox one in the example will do what you want to do.

Doesn't your TV have a "zoom" feature?
My Sony lets me cycle through different display settings like "full" or "wide zoom" or "zoom." For SD 16x9 shows, using zoom fills up the screen. Of course, you have to decide if bigger is indeed better since it is an SD show after all. Mitch |

Some TV's don't have the right zoom mode.
My current Vizio 47" will not zoom any 720P/1080P signal so you need to have zoom modes on the device. Same with my 32" and 20" Vizio. My old Toshiba had a few modes that were nice for non-anamorphic DVD's that worked well. I don't think they would fix the letterbox & pillarbox issue at the same time which I see now on SDTV broadcasts. At least not without some distorted stretching of 4:3 -> 16:9 which I dislike. |
