digital sound connections on server?

I currently have three DirecTV D12 receivers connected to my SageMC server (along with a couple HVR950's for OTAHD). Right now the audio on the receivers is just patched into a PVR-150 and PVR-500 via RCA patch cables. I know on my client side I can use a Soundblaster or another card to feed the audio into my receiver via an optical or coax digital cable. However, that does me little good with the source as it is, currently.

Does anyone have a similar setup and use the digital coax outputs on multiple STBs to feed the sound into the server? If so, what digital audio input device are you using for this? Also, I'm asking this assuming that SageMC will pass through all the signaling properly to make such a configuration worthwhile.

The problem lies with the fact that the PVR 150 and 500 MPEG encoder boards encode both the video and the audio and then multiplex the two streams together. There is no way to reroute the input from your sound cards digital input into either the 150 or the 500 and mux that instead.

To get the audio stream from the digital output of the set-top boxes would require replacing the 150/500 with encoding devices that had matching digital input.

That will be an added bonus to the upcoming Hauppage HD-PVR a lot of people are drooling for but can't be done with your current encoders.
