Artifacts / Choppy HVR-1600

So now that I got my satellite box hooked up and working with sage and vista x64 (thanks to LM Remote Keymap and the great author of the program who has worked with me over the past week and a half to get a stable version running ) i've got some artifact issues with my hvr-1600.

When i'm watching any show, any channel i get these weird blocky lines that go through the screen, probably about 50 pixels wide. sometimes they go all the way across the screen and sometimes only part of the way. it also sometimes disrupts the sound.

i've got the latest drivers installed for it, and i've checked my cables, and this does not happen when i plug it into a regular tv.

any help is appreciated

What your describing is what I see on Over the Air HD when the signal is dropping out. Is it possible your STB is not getting the full signal. What source are you using the HVR-1600 ? (S-video?)

Yup are you on the analog side or digital?

Either way sounds like connection troubles.

analog connection. i don't see any problems when i plug it into a regular tv. i have another tuner which has regular cable and HD OTA, and nothing is going wrong there.

i think it's me being x64 and having 4 gb of ram, but i wasn't sure.

also, the problem is intermittent, after some restarts it will work fine, and some time i will get the lines. that makes me think maybe it isn't the x64 and 4 gb's of ram, because that would happen constantly wouldn't it?

Do you get these same lines if you replay the same part of the show (In SageTV)? And if you do, does it happen if you playback the same show within Media Player?

they happen during playback in the same place, and they happen in media player also.

when i hook up vista media center to the satellite, it works correctly, no distortion or pixelation of any kind.

just so everyone know:

AMD 2.4ghz Dual Core 64 bit
4gb ddr2 ram
320 gb sata hdd
nvidia 8600gts
windows vista ultrimate 64 bit

this tuner gets exceptionally warm, almost hot to the touch, is this normal?

i took out a stick of RAM, (bringing me down to 3gb) and it ran fine. it's a hardware issue with vista and the tv tuner. i found a hotfix on windows update but it isn't applicable to my system for some reason.

If you knocked yourself down to 3GB you're probably running in Single sided mode, you should check that. As for the bug that is one wacky bug I would never have guessed that.
