Question Digital Recording - Comcast (Somerville, MA)

I found out recently (just now!) that my QAM channels from Comcast are terrible so I need another method to get my basic-cable channels digitally. I'll rely on OTA for as much as possible, but some networks (Sci Fi esp) are not broadcast OTA.

So, my questions are:
1) Is there a PC HD capture card that supports CableCARD. It also needs to work with Sage, so no locked-in proprietary stuff.
2) Is there a digital way to get data from a Comcast cable box? I've seen some "R5000 mod" posts but I'm very new to this stuff and would like to hear success stories (especially in MA / Comcast). Also, where on earth do you get these?
3) Any other options?

Thanks!

You could try firewire through your STB box or use firewire just to change channels and record it throught svideo. I would do the svideo route if you aren't trying to record HD. The firewire does not always find a signal where the svideo has always worked for me and the quality has always been very good. Comcast does not always 5c encrypt there basic channels from the firewire port but this hit and miss depending on the area you are in.
