WHS edition
I am wanting ad a couple HD extenders to my house and use the WHS edition of sage tv. I know that the software isn't released yet but is there a way to get around the 15 day limit on the trial? Is there a way to get something working and then move to the WHS edition at a later date without paying twice?
any help appreciated. -Mike |

What are you waiting for which hasn't been released yet?
If you mean SageTV: the download page has the WHS version that you can download and the SageTV store sells the SageTV Media Center license. - Andy

Am I miss understanding something? I don't need a media center license. I need a server license that doesn't expire in 15 days. I want to play back all my media on an extender. If I am confised on how this all works please let me know

"SageTV Media Center" is the server license + it has its own client UI that runs on that server.
SageTV Client, Placeshifter, and Extenders are the clients that can be used in other places to connect to the server. Since you mentioned using an extender: the extender's license is installed on the server. If you buy an extender from SageTV, it will include the required license. Oh -- and the trial period is 21 days now. - Andy

I read some of the threads and for some reason it is still not clicking for me, here is how i understand it. I can download the WHS version of sagetv and then purchase a media center key. This will allow me to have the server running and still have a single client license. If i purchase a media extender this will also come with a client license. With this combination I will be able to watch at two locations other than the WHS, 1 computer 1 extender?

You are looking at 1 SageTV server license, 1 Client license, and 1 extender w/its license. Or, you could use Placeshifter on another PC instead of SageTV Client; here is a FAQ that compares Placeshifter vs. Client. - Andy

I don't actually use WHS, so I'll leave any other usage questions for someone else... I really only wanted to point out where the download was & what license you would use & somehow ended up posting several times. - Andy

Andy, we WHS users are slowly beginning to discover the benefits of Sage software. How about giving us our own area and throwing in all related existing threads there for us. It sure would be easier to discuss and help each other out. Just a suggestion.

Opus4 thank you for pointing me in the right direction I did not men to sound ungrateful.
It seems to me that there should be a lower cost server license since you wont be using it as a client on a regular basis. |

Sage for WHS license includes one free placeshifter license, so it is cheaper than purchasing the sage media center version to install other OSes. I've already purchased it, but, I wished it was cheaper too.

Yes, this is true.
I forgot about that & made a mistake in my above posts. Sorry for the confusion. So.... SageTV on WHS automatically allows connecting 1 Placeshifter client from any local or remote system. - Andy

One more thing on that. They will not substitute the free placeshifter license for a client license. Just incase anyone else is curious.

Can I "third" this? I don't have a WHS yet, but I'm going to be adding that to my system. (After the HD PVR and another HD-100!) Having the information in one area would be very helpful!
