Andy -
Finally, I was able to test your theory. That was a great idea, by the way! Yes, if I exit SageRecorder, the green button does exactly as it should. I could minimize and maximize SageTV as many times as I wanted to (it was quite satisfying, after all this buildup). So the .ini file is not to blame, it would appear. But I still don't know how I'm going to get it to work properly when SageRecorder is running. Any thoughts?

Bingo! Yup, I have an idea... and you may not like this one. As a Windows programmer, here's my guess about what is going on: When you start a program, one way to prevent running multiple copies is to assign your program a particular process name (a very simplified description). Then when the exe is started, you check to see if that named process is running already & if so, switch to it instead & exit the new one. It sounds like SageRecorder has been given the same process name as SageTV. If I were you, I would bring this to Frey Technologies' attention so they can confirm/fix that behavior, if this is really the problem.

Is there anything you can do about it now? That's the part I'm not sure about, since I'm not certain how the system resolves such a search. (Again, if that is indeed what is happening.) Which program do you run first? SageTV? Will recorder work if you switch the order of which program is started first? If so, give that a try & perhaps the system will find the SageTV process before it finds SageRecorder. No promises there, but what have you got to lose, right?

I wonder if SageRecorder wasn't really expected to be running at the same time as SageTV when they were programmed... The next line of inquiry is for someone who happens to run SageTVclient at the same time as SageRecorder -- if you try to run SageTVClient once both client and recorder are running, which program becomes active? There may be a similar issue with those 2 programs.

I was able to get the green power button working correctly with SageTV ver 1.4 and it was also working with the first beta release. However, after installing the latest beta (ver 2.0.11), the green power button is not waking up Sage as before.

It still correctly puts it to sleep, but it is the waking up part that has stopped working.

Anyone here using 2.0.11 and still got the power button working both ways ?

I filed a bug on that. When you installed it, did you check the box to install support for the Hauppauge remote? If so, it reset the irremote.ini file & you are probably now missing the {mode(Default)} part of the following line:

GRNPOWER={ctrl}z{mode(Default)}

I suggest you always make a backup of this file before installing a new version, since I thought I would be smart & not have it install support for the remote. Unfortunately, it then proceeded to edit the irremote.ini file and _remove_ all SageTV sections.

Thanks Andy ! You were right on the money

Went ahead and compared my "new" irremote.ini with the golden one and sure enough, the {mode(Default)} part was missing from the line GRNPOWER={ctrl}z{mode(Default)} ... went ahead and added that and restarted IR and everything is working great again.

This is such a simple change that I strongly feel it should now be supported by SageTV "officially"

Possibly, but I don't remember whether the SageTV installation edits the [Default] section to include the GRNPOWER command to start SageTV in the first place. I've edited my irremote.ini file so much, I don't remember what was originally there. I _think_ they do not change the [Default] section to have GRNPOWER start SageTV, since this seems to be a common question for new users. Frey may be reluctant to modify the [Default] section, since it isn't "their" part of that file.

You know... I can't remember why I have that mode change when SageTV starts, but that is what causes the need for the mode change when you put it to sleep. I still have to experiment to see if the mode switches are really needed. For other applications, I only needed to force a mode switch in irremote.ini when it's process name was not constant.

Edit - the mode switch seems to simply help keep the remote in the default section when you close SageTV. If there is some other program with the focus, that can prevent the power button from waking SageTV. Forcing mode(Default) seems to let you start SageTV no matter what else has the focus. Then, once you force the mode to Default, you have to force it back to SageTV to use the remote there.
