Hauppauge Remote Power Button

Hi all,

I've gone thru all the posts I could find regarding using the Haup. silver remote with SageTV, and everything works fine except the green power button, which puts sage to sleep, but won't wake it up again no matter what i do. Others have had this problem too, but what seems to work for them does not work for me. I've tried cutting and pasting the lines that some people have posted into my irremote.ini, but to no avail. If anyone has this feature working properly, could I please get a copy of your full irremote.ini to test with? I'd prefer trying one that is confirmed to work for someone else, then see if it works for me. If anyone is willing, you can email it to me at

The information you want is in the Sleep with PVR 250 Remote? thread. Be sure to refer to the last few posts, some of the posted irremote.zip files were bad. I think post #29 is what you want. Be sure to restart IR after changing.

you need to put the sage awake command in the default section of the irremote.ini file

OK,
I tried that file, it does not work for me. I've also tried inserting the line in the default section, that dosen't work either. Is there anyone who has this working who is willing to share their irremote.ini file so I can figure out what i am doing wrong?

***** update *****

- here's something interesting - the green power button puts sagetv to sleep, but when I hit it again, it calles SageRECORDER up, not SageTV. Then, just for grins i tried to run sagetv.exe by double clicking on the file, and sageRECORDER popped up, not SageTV! is this a function of having both sageRecorder and SageTV running together on the same box? Is there some argument I can add to the end of the SageTV run command in the .ini that will get it to awaken SageTV as desired?

Why don't you post your irremote.ini file so we can see what you may be doing wrong?

I'm using the .ini file I downloaded from the thread referenced above - from post 29 of that thread. I've intentionally left it unchanged to see if it works for me, since it seemed to work for the person who posted it.

I am sure that is the basis for everyone else, so I don't understand why it doesn't work for you. Where did you install SageTV at? It may be pointing to the wrong directory.

Hi carlgar-

Thanks for responding, but SageTV is in the defult location, and I double checked to make sure the path given in the ini points to the correct .exe location. But note what i mentioned in the update above - once sagetv and sagerecorder are both running, launching the sagetv.exe again makes sagerecorder pop up out of the system tray, instead of sagetv. So the implication is that the remote is triggering the proper command, but for some reason the command causes sagerecorder to come up instead. Anyone know why this is happening? anyone else running both SageTV and SageRecorder on the same box, but still able to use the green power button properly? I'm hoping I can change something in the command that is being launched that will allow me to gat Sagetv to come up instead of sagerecorder.

I think having sage recoder and SageTV on the same box may be why you are having the problems. I just reviewed irremote.ini file and do not see any reason for a conflict. However you state "sagerecorder pop up out of the system tray" which sounds like the sagerecorder may be active when you attemp to start SageTV. I recommend you completely close Sage Recorder. Then start Sage TV and use the remote to put it to sleep and try again to see if SageTV wakes up. If this works then I think you will need to modify the [Default] GRNPOWER to close sage recorder before attempting to awake SageTV.

The difference been the -awake after the sage executable.

Dan is correct the -awake is probably missing in your file. It looks like I should have referred you to post number 24 instead of #29.

I just added the -awake flag, but it does the same thing as before. I wonder if there's another flag or something that has to be set when you are running SageRecorder on the same box?

Did you run "restart IR" after making the change? I would think that having SageRecoder on the same machine with SageTV is very unusual. You may want to download the irremote.ini file from post #24 just in just there is some other minor change that has been missed.

Yup, restarted, but to no avail.
Here is my irremote.ini, let me know what you think.
The SageRecorder on the same box is apparently a requirement if you want to control 2 cable boxes; SageTV can only control one Actisys IR module, so a running copy of SageRecorder is needed to run the second IR module for the second cable box.

Glancing through this thread, I don't believe the "-awake" option has anything to do with not being to get SageTV going again. In the [SageTV] section, you have to have this line:

GRNPOWER={ctrl}z{mode(Default)}

In the [Default] section, you are setting the remote's mode to [SageTV]. Once you put Sage to sleep, it is no longer there to respond to commands. The remote is still in SageTV mode, so it can't restart SageTV from its sleep mode. Thus, it has to be returned to "Default" mode, via {mode(Default)}.

I have no "-awake" parameter in my irremote.ini file & it works just fine.

I am somewhat confused now, because I cannot fine the awake command in my own irremote file. I saw it the other day but must have been looking at some other irremote file.

the -awake option is the only difference I see with my irremote file. Is it possible that you have remapped your Power command from the default Ctrl+Z?

Double check your path -- are you sure the short filename equivalant for your SageTV directory has ~1 added to it? Perhaps it should be ~2?

Somehow this post was a duplicate of what I just posted (above), so I figured I might as well simply edit it to add even more comments... Those who are suggesting there may be a conflict with having SageRecorder running at the same time may be on to something. Just for testing, try exiting SageRecorder to see whether the wake-up call will work when Recorder isn't running too. If it will work after SageRecorder is no longer running, I'll have further comments.
