I think you can use sagerecorder to record off other pc's as a "network encoder" with out a full license. Regardless, you probably don't need that many tuners. I have 4 and one quit, so 3, and rarely if ever do I have a recording conflict. If you wanted to record 5 shows at once and watch a sixth off live tv you'd probably want all those tuners connected. Else 2-4 tuners in one box with one server license should be plenty. I think you told me once that you have an 1800, use that and maybe get the new Hauppauge component capture card when that comes out and you should be set. Maybe one more analog card for basic cable.

Then get the client licenses you think you need. or an extender license to use place shifter in the location of your choice. You don't need to go in to the deep end right off, there are stairs at the shallow end.

SageRecorder is obsolete and is no longer updated to support the newer tuner cards. Using a "full" version of Sage Media Center is the currently recommended method of doing a network encoder.
