Page 151 of the v6.3 PDF SageTV Studio manual has info about STV translations.

I pointed you to the Studio manual, which covers using Studio to edit any STV. Did you read and try what it suggested regarding translations, or just assume it wouldn't work and only applied to the default STV?

So maybe my problem is the file name that i gave to my translation?

What should be the name for the following translation file:
SageMC_169-6.xml
for hebrew ??
SageMC_169-6_i18n_he.properties
is that ok???

thanks

Make sure you are reading the v6.3 Studio manual. I don't remember what manual version had this first, but there is a note on p. 151 that tells you to check the wizard/widget_db_file property file for the STV filename to be used as part of the translation filename.

I think you should be able to name that property to point to your custom STV, or just use SageMC_169.xml as the base name there.

And, I don't know all the 2-letter translation codes, but if "he" is correct, then after renaming the above property, I think you would end up with:

SageMC_169_i18n.properties - base translation file
SageMC_169_i18n_he.properties - translated file.

Problem, in my config file i have the following:
wizard/widget_db_file=C\:\\Program Files\\SageTV\\SageTV\\STVs\\SageTV3\\SageTV3.xml

But my Stv is SageMC_169.xml

Do i need to use the same SageTV3.xml Translation ???

I don't think the wizard/widget_db_file property is used for anything else, but I'm not 100% sure about that. You can try changing the property, like I mentioned above. (It might also affect the default name of the STV that SageTV will revert to after installing an upgrade.)

But, if changing that property causes problems, then yes, you would have to try renaming the translation file.

Did you restart SageTV after editing the properties files? Did you edit the correct translation files? Did you edit the correct properties file for your SageTV client?

I used a test case, such as:
  • STV filename: test.xml
  • set: wizard/widget_db_file=<path to>\\test.xml
  • generated translation source: test_i18n.properties
  • edited translation file for my language: test_i18n_en.properties
  • restarted SageTV & there was the changed phrase.

izard/widget_db_file=C\:\\Program Files\\SageTV\\SageTV\\STVs\\SageTV3\\SageMC169.xml

Then i had 2 translation files:
1. SageMC169_i18n_en.properties

I have updated the 2 files and made some changes in the files, restart the Sage and ..... nothing !!!!!

Is that really where the .xml file is located?

Are the language files in this directory or in the same directory as the STV?

Does the untranslated SageMC169_i18n.properties file also exist?

What is the ui/translation_language_code property set to?

Is your SageTV installed on Windows XP or Vista? If it is Vista the files you need to edit may be in the Virtual Store of Vista and the files in Program Files may not be the ones being used by your user on Vista.

You didn't fully answer my last questions and I don't know what else to say. It worked for me when I used an STV that was named something different than SageTV3.xml, so I know it can work. I don't know if there is a problem that shows up on your system that wouldn't show up on mine.

You can try enabling debug logging to see if the log contains any info about the translation files.

Dear Andy,
Well i will give you a full discription again.

i use the STV file called :
- SageMC169-1.xml

i created from the studio a translation file called :
- SageMC169-1_i18n.properties
i copy this file to a new file and called him:
- SageMC169-1_i18n_he.properties
in my : SageClient.properties file i change two lines :

1. wizard/widget_db_file=C\:\\Program Files\\SageTV\\SageTV\\STVs\\SageTV3\\SageMC169-1.xml

2. ui/translation_language_code=he

i have shut down the system and restarted it again, but nothing happened.

in the translation file XXX_he.xxx i change some object to hebrew like :
"S_Live_TV=שידור חי"
(sorry this is in hebrew)

and it is not working !!

i have turn on the debug longing but i cant seem to see that the system is reading my translation file.
i tried two ways one was to del the translation file, and i saw that the log file show that he cant find my translation file, but when the translation file was back in the dir nothing was happened !

here are the 2 logging files,
help his needed by me.
