HD Extender IR Issues

You know, I have to eat some crow here. I got an HD extender for Christmas and it sat under the tree until just yesterday when I had time to install it. I had been tracking the forum for the last three weeks and saw all of the complaints about the IR issue with people drilling holes and what not to resolve the issue. That is part of the reason why it took until yesterday to get it installed ... I was debating whether to do it or wait for a fix. Well, I decided to crack the box and install it. And guess what? I haven't had a single IR issue. I have tried using the stock remote from a number of different angles ... no problem. At one point, I had some cables draped in front of it while I was hooking it up ... no problem. I tried it from 15-20 feet away ... no problems. The IR functionality is performing better than my old MVP. So, at this point, I am thinking that those where the IR does not work, you might be best served by RMAing your unit and exchanging it for a new one. That got me thinking, how many people with the HD extender are having the IR issue?

Mine sucked

But... after pulling the tinted plastic off the front, it now works like my MCE remote, it even works when your aiming 180 degree backwards ! but that destroys the look. Just pry it from the usb ports. The glue is weak and will come off easy.

So I did like a few other have, I drilled out a hole in this dark tinted plastic and remove the metal gage thats wrapped around the sensor and now it work just like my vcr or tv remote does.

Mine works fine both with the stock remote and a Logitech Harmony one, even with the version of Firmware that came preloaded on the box.

I ended up drilling a hole in mine which helped some with the stock remote, but the biggest improvement came when I switched to a Harmony 520 remote. Now I can point the remote anywhere and still have it picked up. Even after drilling the hole, I still only had about a 50 degree operating window.
