Should I buy the HD extender ?
I need some help deciding on if this extender is what I need or not. So I may buy it as soon as it is back in stock.
Here is basically what I want - A reliable, easy to use plug and play device, with as little setting up/configuring/troubleshooting problems as possible. Plays everything I have. I only need the device for playing content on my PC on my TV, I do not have a TV tuner, nor will be be purchasing one as I don't want to watch/record TV with the extender. Most of my stuff is in a combination of the following containers and codecs - AVI/MKV/MPEG/TS/WMV/XVID/DIVX/H264/VC-1/MP3/AC3/DTS/WMA2 I am sure that the extender can play DVD files (but which ones? VOB/IFO/ISO?), but can it do so with full menus? I would assume so. I have checked the FAQ but some users seem to report problems with XVID/DIVX files as well as different H264 files here on these forums. These formats are supported but there seem to be problems, I am sure it would be fixed in a firmware update but I would prefer to wait and continue using my PC to view my videos till it has been perfected rather than try a product and then have to deal with multiple bugs/issues. From what I understand from these forums the extender has potential but needs the kinks worked out, so I would guess the best course of action for me (as I do not want a buggy product) would be to wait out the storm till the device has been perfected? Or am I wrong and the extender fits my needs perfectly as it is right now? Thanks in advance! Last edited by DecadentSpectre; 12-29-2007 at 10:42 AM. |

Wait 4 to 6 weeks. At least based upon current rate of bug squashing. It helps that they are still out of stock.
Okay, so I want you to wait so I can buy 2 more when they're back in stock As of the Dec 26th Firmware, mine is humming quite nicely (minor niggle in one type of XVID format). |

Yes, you know Sage will fix any bugs they find.
They are working on the Xvid-MP3 problem for me right now. I have not been happier with any product I purchased last year as I have with this one, and I only use it for SD TV. No HD Yet. Much better than the MVP client, and or a pc client. It just works Ok Almost |

Yeah I think I will wait it out for now....
Almost is not good enough.... If I can't find anything in a few months I may just replace my monitor with a big TV. |
