Question about Wireless Media Extender

Hi everyone.

I am currently deciding between a WMCE extender and a SageTV setup and an extender.

I had a question about the STVCWMVP. In the description it says that it supports many formats, but does it support H.264 and WMV9? And does it support playback of internet video? (youtube, etc)

I noticed that the HD Media Extender does both, but I don't have an HDTV so I wouldn't be able to take advantage of a lot of the features, plus I would rather have a wireless device.

Also, is the Wireless Media Extender still being actively supported? Meaning in a few months will it still be supported by SageTV?

I would be surprised if not. I strongly recommend you do some reading in the forums about the MVP experience.

From what I've read, it sounds like it converts H.264 video server side and streams it to the extender as MPEG2. But it sounds like the MVP will never be able to support straight H.264 without a conversion process.

The computer I plan on installing it on is a little old, an AMD Opteron 170 chip (Stock speed 2.0GHz). Hopefully it will be able to handle the conversion.

I have never tried transcoding H.264 content, but from my experience with other formats - I doubt the server will be able to handle it. You will be fine, though, for anything that doesn't require transcoding.
