yeah I know sage cant play them... but the latest version of handbreak doesn't add the sub stream to the mkv at all. I have had no problems rew/ffd with the latest version of HB and sage... I'm not promoting it.. it is still a long ways from automkv options, but it is an easy alternative to newbies at it.

Yeah I am just starting to mess with AutoMKV right now...gatta say TONS of options, and very confusing to do something as simple as ripping a DVD. Course I'm having a problem with it. For some reason it's not creating an MKV file. It runs, builds temp files, then completes basically unsuccessfully.

I'll have to try out handbrake.

Yea, it was really confusing for me at first. What works for me in AutoMKV is using the Constant Quality profile. I use a quality setting of 23 unless the file comes out too large. Then I specify a specific size. I set the audio to Copy Original. I personally do anamorphic conversions. That way it keeps the original 720x480 resolution rather than resizing it for square pixels.

AutoMKV certainly isn't perfect. It doesn't get the PAR for anamorphic conversions correct. I have to manually put in a PAR for it to come out right. Since I don't crop I just keep the one for 16:9 saved in there, which is 32:27. But, once I got that all figured out it's a fairly decent one stop shop for DVD conversion. I only have a handful of movies that it doesn't get right. Most of the time it's a timing issue with the subtitles.

There is a automkv guide that I used.

http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/arch...vc_automkv.cfm

I've only tried it once, and the audio was offset on my rip, but I'm sure it was probably pilot error.

Yeah I had a mess with Automkv for a long time... Everything was being stretched vertically filling the screen... then I figured out all the PAR mess.

As its been said... watch the mkvs in sage, BEFORE you delete the source material to be sure your happy with the outcomes. Sometimes you are sometiems you aren't!

Good luck!
