Menu is ridiculously slow
I just loaded the latest firmware update and the menu is pathetically slow. My old MVP's menu is great, very smooth. But the Hd's is horrible. Seems like it should be an easy fix.

Which menu?
My videos menu (imported media) is real slow. Which one is an issue for you?

I'm going through the same issue with support now. they have my debug logs. Hopefully tomorrow they will have something for me. If you enable hardware_scaling_cache=true in the sage.properties, it will at least make moving up and down the menu tolerable, although once the thumbnails actually load into memory it slows down a lot.
Make sure the client is closed and the service is off if you do enable that, otherwise it won't take. It basically allows you to browse the menu freely and the thumbnails load once you stop scrolling. Like I said, tolerable at least. I have actually unplugged my HD extender until this issue gets worked out and and using the mvp's, it's painful, but it's best for my health this way |

I have them setup in groups, but I have about 480. No problems when running the the sage client PC.

Do I enable hardware_scaling_cache=true on the server side?

Here were my instructions
_________________________________ There are 3 default graphics themes you can choose from. Choose the one that most closely matches your menu display resolution in Detailed Setup -> Advanced -> Select the UI Theme. Also close SageTV and the service and open up your Sage.properties file in the SageTV folder. Enable this line by adding true: ui/enable_hardware_scaling_cache=true ________________________________ I'm not sure I understand enable it on the server side. |

That would go in the extender's properties file in clients\<macaddress>.properties

I double checked and that line isn't in the HD extender properties by default. So does it pick it up from sage.properties if it isn't in the client properties? That I don't know, but it does make a difference by having it in the sage.properties and not in the extender properties. I'm vnc'ing to my server now to add it to the hd extender properties to see if there is any difference. edit - Well, I can't say if it's any different adding that property to the client properties or not. Before it loads thumbnails it's great, but really bogs down once they are all loaded, whereas the mvp is fast and fluid before or after all the thumbnails are loaded. Check to see what's going on on the server. I get a sluggish menu whenever my resources are being used up by comskip or the STV Photo Slideshow. Otherwise, the UI is passable.

One other thing might be your version of Java. Most people get much better response from the extenders (at least the MVPs) when the server is running Java 1.6.

My PC clients are running fine. The menu's are very fast. The server is running Java 1.6.0.30 update 3. Very very low CPU usage on the server also.

Have you tried blowing away its .properties file in the clients directory and let it create a new one? i know that would sometimes help with issues on the MVP. Might be worth trying.

Have you tried disabling the UI Animations?

What is the latest FW you are running? Is it yesterdays? 20071226 (0)? That sped things up for me. But like sixdoubleo said, try disabling the animations. That helped my twitch factor but YMMV
