Another poor HDTV Playback thread :(

Here's my setup:

AMD 64 3200+
Hauppauge HVR 1600 (QAM 79-80% Signal)
2x PATA Stripe 500GB (64KB Cluster)
ATI 2400 Pro (Latest Catalyst Drivers)

I have tried both NV Decoder and Cyberlink Powerdvd Decoder and the Powerdvd decoder is slightly better.

I am not certain that the video is being hardware accelerated correctly and too much burden is being put on the CPU (70-80% Usage by Sage). Oh also, I am not sure where to find the DXVA setting (I hear people changing this and having sucess).

Are there any tweaks/suggestions you guys would recommend to determine if my rig is giving me the best performance?

Over in AVSForum in the HTPC section, there is a very long thread concerning the Radeon 2XXX series video cards and the problems in getting hardware acceleration to work. The steps needed to get it working (if you can) are in there.

With the Cyberlink decoder make sure you open the PowerDVD app and enable any kind of hardware accel settings. Then quit.
Make sure you enable Full Screen Exclusive mode in the Advanced section of the detailed setup then quit and restart Sage.

Me...I actually use the ATI video decoder.

What kind of performance are you guys getting? Does 80% seem like hardware excel is NOT working?

I looked in the powerdvd app and AVIVO Hardware Accel is enabled...

I found the thread and downloaded RivaTuner to see what the GPU on my Video Card was doing. It seems to be working but maxes out at like 400mhz. I haven't got a chance to install the tweaks that they have on there but I will give them a shot (once their forums goes back up).

Other than that maybe I will try and pickup an nvidia card to see if I can get any better performance from it. Any suggestions for HD playback?

Do this and I believe it will make you a happy camper. Did for me and I have the same card.

Well I did it try the vbs file tweak for the 2400 and it didn't do much. The card still runs at 400mhz-ish and my CPU is still pegged between 75-80% usage for SageTV.

I do notice an obvious increase in GPU usage when playing SD/HD videos (but this was true prior to the reg tweaks).

I'm still baffled

Which I did (changing the regsvr command to get rid of the sage decoder).

Everything else just looks like people complaining and swapping out video cards as a solution.
