Problem with Intelligent Recording

This has been bugging me for a while now: I have several channels twice, one is HD, the other is SD. Sage keeps recording both airings at the same time, if it's got nothing better to do. The two channels are in different line-ups, since I have to remap for the HDHR. What I forget to check if it's always the show from the other lineup. Could that be the reason?

I any case. Sage should be smart enough, not to record Ugly Betty twice at the same time - with the favorite being set to a specific HD channel!

So is the problem with intelligent recording, or is this only happening on favorites? I had a problem similar to this years ago, but unfortunately I can't remember the exact details.

Is one of the shows flagged as HD? I wonder if because one version is HD and the other is SD, Sage sees them as two different shows? Do they have the same airing ID?

Well, what does my post say?

I currently don't have any of those anymore. Nothing's on, right now. Could be, though, that they have different airing ID's. That would some what 'explain' Sage's behavior. However, when I have a favorite that records a specific show from a specific channel - and only new airings - then getting the airings of the same show offered up from a different channel is not 'intelligent' but quite the opposite.

At the minimum, I would expect that there would be a setting to avoid those duplicate recordings, simply by honoring the favorites settings to record the show only from channel x - favorite or suggest recording. That would take care of it .

I've had this happen in my setup too. I'll set up say SCI as a favorite to record only new ones and only on the HD channel on my 1600. Sage will "suggest" any re-run and usually the new SD show as well.
I've slowly been weeding through all the re-runs and marking them watched. As for the SD version of new shows I usually tag them as "don't like" to get them to go away.
Intelligent recording is kind of an oxymoron, but everyon once and a while it finds a good one.

Absolutely. Sage seems to use a 'shotgun' approach, though, which translates to pretty raw intelligence.

I'm a longtime TiVo user, so I'm spoiled. Btw: While talking to some comcast rep today, I learned that the advent of the Comcast-TiVo is near. There are already training their employees. Guess what what the comcast person chose to highlight as her favorite feature ..

But I'm going to get one of those anyway. Do you happen to read the release notes of new versions? I do. I don't recall ever to see any update in that area in the past two and a half years.

Do you have "aggressive_negative_profiling=true" set? I use, and love, intelligent recording, but without that setting it's just WAY too optimistic about what I might like to record.
Go to Detailed Setup/Customize to find that setting.

That may not help with your specific problem listed here but does help IR in general.

I hear your pain though. Whenever I have enough tuners (2 PVR 500s, 1 HDHR) I usually record both the HD and SD versions of a show because I have had some troubles with HD recordings. Usually this happens when Comcrash's signal level drops too far and the HD version show ends up being unwatchable due to skips, dropouts of the audio, etc.
But for shows like the Simpsons, etc that don't broadcast in HD Sage still "suggests" recording off the HD channel. Sorry, waste of my lmited HDHR tuners. I manually set up the SD channel for those instances. As a matter of fact 95% of my recordings I set up as manual records just so that IR doesn't pre-empt something I really want to record in favor of "Martha Stewart Living" or Dr. Phil.
