Different Chipsets?

I am thinking about picking up one of those gateway PVR-250's that I see on ebay but the problem is that it is a different chipset then what I have installed on my machine.

Is it sort of like playing russian roullette to get them to work?

I think you may encounter problems if one pvr 250 has a heatsink (type 15) and one does not. You should review is my hauppage 350 a 15 or 16. This is a real problem for some people. Most of the people that encountered the problem just worked around it by trading the newer pvr250 for an older one. Other put the cards in different systems. Others such as EncoderHouse may not see any problems at all.

Note: I read a post much like the above from Narflex and got burned by it. He only says it SHOULD work, I would agree, but it may not.

I suppose.. I've gotten mixed cards to work in two different machines.

Maybe it is a function of driver revision used?

In any case, using the same type is certainly MUCH more reliable.
