Sage 6.3.5 MPEG decoder took over everything
Just upgraded my clients to 6.3.5. It seems good overall, except for the new SageTV video decoder.
The new SageTV decoder took over all MPEG-2 playback on my clients (both XP and Vista). DECCHECK still shows the preferred decoder as NVIDIA Video Decoder. However, when I play an MPEG2 file in WMP, it shows that "SageTV MPEG-2 Video Decoder" is the active decoder. SageTV Client is also using the SageTV decoder when set to Default, instead of the nVidia codec. This is an issue because I want to use the nVidia decoder for MPEG-2 video. I can force the nVidia decoder in SageTV, but of course that brings up the nVidia tray icon bug.

Ok, I managed to force a change back to my selected preferred decoder by renaming stvm2vd.ax in C:\Program Files\SageTV
Filing bug report...

It's done this on mine as well.
I've reinstalled the Nvidia Codec as well and that didn't help at all. In Sage, even if I force it to use the Nvidia Codec it still doesn't use it. Worse yet the Sage codec causes micro stutter on everything. Complete bunch crap if you ask me. Unusable crap. |

No problems so far, but I have no intention of ever using the included SageTV video decoder.

This is ridiculous. edit: Renaming that fiel fixed the issue for Sage. But Windows Media player won't stop using the SageTV decoder. edit2: Windows MEdia player is back to normal now too. How odd. Perhaps Rad Light did do something after all. I set Nvidia to normal merit +1 Last edited by bhyman1; 12-13-2007 at 05:05 PM. |

A better approach than renaming is to just unregister the filter entirely. This CLI should do the trick...
Code:
regsvr32 /u "C:\Program Files\SageTV\SageTV\stvm2vd.ax"

I would think lowering the merits of the various Sage directshow filters followed by a reboot would fix the issue.

I had to do this too. It started a couple of versions ago. Being Betas, I didn't worry much, but I was just about to install the release version, so I'll have to pay attention.

Very irritating IMO. SageTV should have a more customer-friendly method of managing the directshow filters.. at the very least, and undo capability.

I'm experiencing the same issue. Playback is awful in SageTV while it's great in VLC and Windows Media Player. I'm running Vista and can't get the command to work (that is the correct path but I may not have the right privileges to do so):
regsvr32 /u "C:\Program Files\SageTV\Common\stvm2vd.ax" Is there a way to run this command as an administrator?

If you type Win+R on the keyboard the run command should come up with the text "This task will be created with administrator privilages." Does it not for you?

If you use DirectShow Filter Manager, you can unregister with just a click.
