X10 RF Remote

I finally received the remote today but I am having problems. It looks like it is suppose to work perfecting and is actually controlling my audio receiver and my TV without any problems. I am able to control the mouse on the screen and click on things but when I try to run the config software it comes up with sending error reports to MSFT and closes. So I am trying some things out to see how it works. They do have a pre config file for SageTV to download but unless I can get by this error I can't configure anything inluding that file.

But it could just be my system so I would say it is well worth $35 to have. This will give you one remote to control everything with.

Make sure you get the updated .exe on their website.

ya, I was going to check out their site to see if there was an updated version.

I will say that if this works like it is suppose to that I will finally have the remote I was missing since I sold my Sony T60 TiVo. It controled my TV and audio along with my TiVo.

I do wish that when I select TV or PC that when I changed the volume that it would change it on my receiver, not my TV or PC. But that is just a minor detail

I also wasn't able to have the RF work with the receiver inside the case. No biggy but it would have been nice to keep it all in one box.

Can't you use your receiver remote and learn the code for that volume on the TV button? I would imagine you're not even using your TV volume since it's going to your receiver.

I don't think it can, at least it is not working for me. I will ask the guy and see what he says.

However, they updated the software tonight and the new software works great! I couldn't imagine a better remote and software then this. Once I installed it I did remove all the extra programs it supports so it only runs with Sage. I can add them back in but I received an error for another program while running Sage.

I kept everything setup to the defaults and added a command where if I hit the "Power" button while on the PC setting it will launch the Sage .exe. So when Sage craches I just hit the power and it is back up and running. I love this thing.

Is it possible to setup this remote so that no matter what "mode" you have it in, it sends volume changes to the tv via IR?

Well I can get it to learn it for my audio except for "PC" mode. I am assuming it is because it is using RF for the receiver that is on my Sage box. I will find out if it can through the PC mode because that is the ideal setup.

Follow the instruction sheet that came with your remote. There are steps in there that you can have it learn the IR code of your audio receiver. You would press the TV button then start the learn process and teach it the volume control from your audio remote. It sounded like you wanted to be able to change the volume on your receiver. If you use the PC button you will only be able to change the volume on your PC. If you are doing pass thru for SPDIF that won't get you anywhere either.

Sadly it does not work for this function. There are 2 problems with it. One is the PC mode only operates with RF frequencies, not IR so not matter what I have to change to what ever other mode I decide to use for the receiver.

Secondly, even though it can learn the codes, you can only teach it one type of remote at a time. So my TV is a JVC and my receiver is a Sony. I can not have the TV mode control my TV and receiver; I can only pick from one of them.

So close to be the perfect remote but I still think it is by far the best and for only $40.
