Multiple Identical Digital Cable Boxes

Hi All,

I am sure that this has been discussed before, but I just what to know if any one has experience doing this.

I want to connect SageTV to 4 identical Digital Cable Boxes and control them with an IR blaster.

From what I have read I believe that this is possible by using multiple instances of SageRecorder as a network encoders.

I already do this with one SageRecorder instance using the Actisys IR Blaster on my network encoder machine. Here is what I want to do.

Main SageTV System:

SageTV
PVR1: PVR 250 connected to Digital Cable Box controlled by Actisys IR Blaster on COM1.

PVR2: PVR 250 connected to Digital Cable Box controlled by USB UIRT IR Blaster / Receiver.

Network Encoder Systtem:

SageRecorder Instance 1:
PVR 250 Connected to Digital Cable Box Controlled by Actisys IR Blaster on COM 1.

SageRecorder Instance 2:
PVR 250 Connected to Digital Cable Box Controlled by Actisys IR Blaster on COM 2.

I am pretty sure that the Network Encoder System will work fine as described the real question is if SageTV can use both USB UIRT and Actisys? I suspect the answer yes, but just wanted to know if anyone had any experience with this.

Thanks,
John

Update:

According to Dan SageTV can only control one IR Tuner ( Either Actisys or USB-UIRT )
So I can do the following:

Main SageTV System:

SageTV:
PVR 250 connected to Digital Cable Box controlled by Actisys IR Blaster on COM1.

SageRecorder Instance 1 < Setup as Network Encoder >:
PVR 250 Connected to Digital Cable Box Controlled by Actisys IR Blaster on COM 2.

Sage Recorder Instance 2 < Setup as Network Encoder >:
PVR 250 connected to Digital Cable Box controlled by USB UIRT IR Blaster / Receiver.

Network Encoder Systtem < Seperate PC>:

SageRecorder Instance 1 < Setup as Network Encoder >:
PVR 250 Connected to Digital Cable Box Controlled by Actisys IR Blaster on COM 1.

Is there a chance that Sage will eventually support multiple UIRTs or Actisys IRs? I am in a situation where I can move to DirecTV essentially for free, but I want to port my multi-tuner system to this, and do it without building more computers. I don't mind jury-rigging all the receivers together, it's the Sage support I *really* want here...

Sage does support multiple boxes with serial control if your boxes support it.

You don't need multiple uirts if you can change the remote address in the stb. I control 2 dish boxes with a single uirt, one dish is remote address 1 and the other remote address 2. To me this is a lot simpler.

Hey GlBrown,

Can you post your USBUIRT file for the second box (address 2). Im assuming thats what you need to program in order to get the second one to work?

Im looking to do the same thing your doing, but dont want to reinvent the wheel

Thx in advance!

I.

Here they are again. I wired a dual emitter extention from my usbuirt and taped the emitters to the front of the dish boxes. They have been running flawlessly for months.
