How do you guys convert you files?

I have been using Vdub for awhile now(bout 6 months) and I have been converting alot of the DVD's I have to Xvid. I just tried doing a MPEG2 to Xvid conversion and I have run into a couple of problems

first I am following this guide

and I have download the MPEG2 version of Vdub but when I set the file size it never turns out what I want to it to be. Its like 4 times larger.

The best with Dr DivX or old outdate Vidomi Encoder.
