Thumbs down SageTV losing serial direct control and crashing.

*edited*

USB TV Translator may be at fault for my issues.

Well I discovered something -- I think --

In the tuner source details it shows that

"Tuner Control: C:\Program Files\SageTV\Common\DirecTVSerialControl COM5"

I went and look into C:\Program Files\SageTV\Common\DirecTVSerialControl to see if that file exist and there no filename in that folder.

Next I did a search to see if that file exist any other location on the drive and it found the file which does exist but it is in C:\Program Files\SageTV\SageTV\

I am gonna try copying that DirecTVSerialControl.dll file over there now and see what happens.

No changes.

I copied the DirecTVSerialControl.dll over to :\Program Files\SageTV\Common\ then restarted SageTV. When I went back to Source Details and select to change remote control it still crashes the service. and similar log is generated.

I did some more testing.

If I disable service and start SageTV then go back to Tuner Control and it would crash closing SageTV completely.

Similar error log is genereated as above.

With further testing, I can't seem to get around to it so I am forced to delete the tuner source and re-add the source but this time I gave up on the serial directv and went with ir blaster instead.

I just can't trust SageTV and SerialDirect right now but it may never be SageTV and it could be the USB TV Translator that causing all the issues.

Tech - I had the exact same problem about 6 months or so back. The fix for me was to use the older version of the DirecTVSerialControl.dll from May 1, 2006, 64K filesize 65536 bytes. I have that in my programfiles\sagetv\sagetv folder and it works flawlessly. Oh, yea....one caveat - every time you install a new version of sage it gets overwritten with the buggy new dll for DTV so just keep a backup on hand and overwrite it before running the service.

I've attached the file for your convenience. Let me know if that fixes it for you.

(EDITED: Strange but I don't see the dll I attached. Maybe sage only allows jpg. If you can't find it let me know or send me a pm and I'll send you a link to my ftp for a download of the May 2006 dll).
