Really struggling to configure EPG for UK

I've downloaded XMLTV GUI, but the most recent howto I can find for configuring it for Freeview in the UK is from 2005, and none of the setup process is the same. And I've read the wiki pages for the app, but again it's not helped any.
Is there a newer writeup I've missed, or is there any chance someone could take the time to explain the setup process?

Please help, because so far this seems to be SageTV's biggest downfall at present. Other than this and one other minor problem it's been a godsend.

Thanks in advance

John

I'm using windows xp

I've since tried this guide once again, but again I'm getting stuck
http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1484

From stage 2, this passage means absolutely nothing to me

Before going into back into SageTV to test the plugin, make sure you have an XML listings file from XMLTV. And make sure you supply this XML listings in the SageTV directory and that it is named epgdata.xml. If you use my .BAT file code below (See Step 4) for XMLTV, then it will put your listings in the SageTV directory properly.
From Stage 3, this file no longer seems to be online

Get the Xerces XML parser file:

Anyone???

Theres a couple of things to think about.

If you're using a dvb-t card for freeview, you shouldn't have to use the birtles grabber, it should automatically get the epg data from over the air, as long as you select the 'no epg' option (I think its called that) when you set up the source.

If you want to use the radio times data, then you need an importer to get it into sage. The xerces.jar you mension was used in earlier importers, but it didn't work with java 1.6 (or version 6, whichever name you call it).

I use Stephane's importer, download details are at the bottom of his signature block.

Neilm has a version too for multiple lineups, but I don't have all the info on his.

For now you could download Stephane's importer, that way you wont have to worry about the java files as his installs all the files you need and configures sage for you.

Try reading this thread

http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=28301

its for setting up sky, but the basics are the same. When sage does the channel scan for the dvb-t card, it creates a file in the sage folder called something like

Nova-DT DVB-T Capture (Dev1 Path0) -0-DVB-T.frq

inside this file it lists the channels it can find. They have channel numbers, frequencies and the channel names. When in Stephane's importer, you go to the edit channels screen, and you have to make sure that the channel numbers you put in there match the channel numbers that are listed in the above file.

I hope this makes some sense. Its quite hard to explain.

Definately use Stephanes importer, hell of a lot easier than the other routes.

I am also having a hard time setting up Sage EPG for UK DVB-T. I started off using XMLTVGUI and got in a real mess with it, then I read about StephaneM's importer and tried that. The results with that were slightly better, but still most of the programme listings are wrong. Should it be easier than this or is it supposed to be a hard slog? I really feel I need a foolproof step by step guide ie what should I be doing and in what order. Maybe I need to delete all the files that Sage created during the process, and start again clean, but I don't know what they are. Someone put me out of my misery, please!

OK bud, I'm so close to getting it perfect. Nip over to the UK specific section of the forum and read up. There's a thread where I've pretty much charted my progress. Not started by me, but mine is the last post.

Thanks John, I found a good procedure by StephaneM that seems to work well(thanks Stephane) and my EPG is mostly ok now but still needs some re-mapping or turning channels off, much better though
