No Video but Audio...Decoder Problem, Maybe?
Okay, for a while now, all of a sudden, video stops working on some recordings (screen is blank). I can still hear the audio no problem. By closing out SageTV (front end, not closing out the service), and restarting it, the problem goes away, but eventually comes back.
Another strange thing I have noticed, is that I'm using Nvidia PureVideo decoders, and when I open WMP, I select "Prefer Other Decoder." In the past when I had done this, when I went into DVD/Advanced, it showed the Nvidia settings. Now, it shows a SageTV Decoder by Main Concept. When I use the Decoder Check utility, it shows that Nvidia is the preferred decoder... About the only things I've done when this started happening, was to install the latest version of SageTV 6.3.1, and Java 6 with update 3. I also installed and uninstalled VideoLAN. Any ideas?

Installing/updating SageTV installs the SageTV Mpeg decoders which is then set as the default decoder.
You can force SageTV to use the nvidia decoder in detailed setup -> video/audio. Reinstalling the nvida decoder should make it the default again as well. Or you can probably find a program that will let you set this. Last edited by malore; 11-12-2007 at 10:55 AM. |

Yep, it's setup in SageTV to force to Nvidia, but I just thought the change in WMP was a little strange, as that is the way I normally have to set things up for them to work correctly.
What I find strange, is why this SageTV (Main Concept) decoder now shows up in WMP, when it never did before, and why I'm seeing this video problem all of a sudden.

My theory was that SageTV was using the default decoder, which judging by WMP appears to be the SageTV decoder. But that isn't the problem since you have the nvida decoder specified in SageTV.
If you don't get any better suggestions, I would try reinstalling the nvida decoders. At the very least it should get WMP back to using them. You have to completely close the SageTV client to get video back? Putting it to sleep or picking a different show doesn't help? |

Hmm...well, I reinstalled the Nvidia decoders, and the SageTV decoders are showing up in WMP still. Oh, well, maybe it's another issue. I guess I need to see if there is something I can figure out when the problem is happening.
I have to get completely out of SageTV client to get the video back. Sleep or picking a different show doesn't help. I will have to verify if it is with every show. Seems like it was only with certain ones (which the only difference would be if it was recorded by the FusionHDTV boxes or the PVR-500)... But I don't think the recording is the issue, as it works after I restart SageTV.

I've been having the same issue and it only happens with HD recordings. See my post http://forums.freytechnologies.com/f...ad.php?t=28400
