General rule on java updates?

Java is informing me that there is an update available. I am currently running 1.6 without sage issues (at least noen that I can blame on java). Is the best practice to continue my "don't fix it if it ain't broke" policy?

With SUN coming out with a new, and possibly more deadly, version of JAVA every few months, it would be nice if the forum could maintain a chart listing JRE versions vs bug items dealing solely with SageTV compatibility. Memory Issues, DST, ...

Nevermind. I was just doing some quick research to see how many variables are involved, then ran into this missive from the Java.com site tells us everything we need to know...

The latest version of the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) contains updates to previous versions. There might be some applications or applets written and tested against a specific version of the JRE.

It is recommended that you keep older versions of the JRE on your system. If you are running low on disk space, you can uninstall older versions of the JRE.

...so there is no definitive answer to your question. It's your choice: Stay put, or not. Enjoy a possible speed increase, or troubleshoot the newest bug. (*AND* running with all the 'older JRE versions' installed and co-existing on your system? That's gotta be tempting fate)
