Im guessing this is trivial, but IM stumped. I have Sage set up with a USB-UIRT properly controlling my motorola cable box. Ive HAD Sage working with the Streamzapper and reciever purchased through the Sage Store. Since I had the Streamzappre, I didnt purchase the USB-UIRT that has a reciever. I cannot for the life of me get both working at the same time. Once the USB-UIRT is properly controlling the cable box, the Streamzapper stops functioning. The reciever clearly indicates its recieving the signal, but Sage doesnt respond. Can anyone explain to me exactly what Im doing wrong? I only have 2 days left on my trial license, and this is the last hitch befoer I purchase the package. I NEED the remote to work for the wife and kid, this has to effectively replace ReplayTV with as little fuss as possible
Thanks in advance |

I don't know that much about the Streamzap remote & its receiver, or why it might conflict with the USB-UIRT, but...
If you can't get the Streamzap receiver to work easily: the USB-UIRT is a receiver too. If you set SageTV to use it in Detailed Setup -> Commands -> Remote Control Configuration, you could teach the remote buttons for each command to be used. - Andy

USB-UIRT and streamzap
My understanding is that the basic USB-UIRT is a transmitter only. Even so, ideally Id like things to simply work the way I paid for them to, rather than hand programming buttons to codes. Its a weird trait of mine, but I LOVE computers and HATE coding. Thats why I pay programmers and talented developers to do it for me. Its a win win. Im happy, and they make a living

I can understand wanting the Streamzap to work the way it should & maybe someone will have an idea about that.
But, just so you know: the UIRT portion of the USB-UIRT stands for Universal Infrared Receiver Transmitter, so it is a receiver also. (Unless you have something that isn't really a USB-UIRT.) Technically, you don't need the Streamzap & could use almost any remote with the USB-UIRT to control SageTV. - Andy

Hello,
Quote:
I'm not sure why both wouldn't work (I never tried myself to have both of them working at the same time). Could you please download my remote software tool (see signature) to make some test. Don't worry it will not mess anything on your PC. Once it is installed, launch it and choose "Streamzap" as the remote. Verify that the remote is working, even thouhg it doesnt seems to work in SageTV. You'll know that the remote is correctly working if the taskbar notification icon is blinking (or when you change the volume, you should see the volume OSD of my software) If the remote works let me know. Regards, Stéphane. |

Streamzap +USB-UIRT
Yes, those are in fact what I have. One purchased from the USB-UIRT web site and one from the Sage online store. I will try the reccomended tools later tonight, have some veterinary issues to take care of just now. Also, knowing that the USB-UIRT is a reciever as well, I will try the "USB-UIRT and ANY remote" setting and see how that goes. Initially I tried that setting and failed to get ANYTHING to respond, but perhaps I did something wrong. ODDLY, I had other lessor products here already, but since the SAGE docs go quite a bit out of their way to mention that both Streamzapper and USB-UIRT are natively supported, I spent the 75$ to get a simple solution that would be least likely to flip out on my wife causing me grief.

partial solution
I managed to set the commands in sage to respond to the streamzap through the USB-UIRT, so thats a apartial success, however not really functional, since the USB-UIRT needs to face the cable box, which means its NOT aimed to recieve the streamzap from the couch where we watch. I looked briefly into the service user issue, but couldnt easily find the service that the streamzap was running on, so that didnt get me anywhere. If anyone has any advice on how to make them both working, Im all ears. I will start a new thread about my video questions now. Its all working, but Id like to be able to tweak/set some of the parameters for the capture on my ATI 650 Pro. Sage doesnt really seem to have much in the way of an interface for that sort of thing.

no such luck for me
Unfortunately I have to have the USBUIRT aimed pretty much straight at my Motorola cable box to get reliable channel changes, and no less than bout 75 degrees off center for it to work erraticly at best. Gonna spend some quality tome with it in a while to see if I can get the Streamzap remote working on its own reciever again. Thats the only hag up to the wifes approval of the new system to replace ReplayTV. I am gone for long periods of time for work, and seh wants a system that will NOT need fiddling with while Im out. Replay has been flawless since weve had it, so this was a hard sell.

When SageTV is running in a window (ie not fullscreen), press a button on the remote and see if the taskbar notification icon of my software is blinking. If it is currently blinking then your remote is working fine. And you probaly have a focus issue. Let me know if your remote is working or not (taskbar icon blinking). Regards, Stéphane. |

success
Im not even sure what I did exactly, but it worked. I just plugged in the Streamzap remote and set it as the remote of choice as preparation for downloading the tool mentioned, and it just worked fine. Tried that 15 times beofre posting, so I hope it doesnt just stop after a while =8P

* The streamzap receiver is blinking: if not unplug and plug back the receiver in the USB port. Sometimes the Streamzap receiver just stops working. * That giving focus to SageTV (eg: by clicking with your mouse) restore remote functions. Regards, Stéphane. |
