AVI playback issue
I compressed my first sagetv created .mpg file into an xvid AVI file through the default Convert utility. It created an AVI file and when I go to play it, I hear audio but I see no video. Is there something I need to change in one of the .properties files or on the setup in order to see AVI files?
Thanks! |

A few things:
1) If you have installed anything from divx, uninstall it. 2) Download and install xvid 1.1.3 (make sure you select "use xvid decoder to play all..." or whatever the options is). http://www.free-codecs.com/download/Koepi_XviD.htm Then try playing back the video. If it still doesn't work... 3) Go into Sage Setup and find the option that says something like use for mpeg4 playback and set it to sageTVplayer. -ep |

I just changed the mpeg4 playback option from DirectShow to SageTVPlayer and that worked. I'm wondering if for overall playback if I would be better off downloading the codec you've referenced...
I also have Xvid-1.1.2-01112006 installed so maybe there's something within the xvid options I have not set yet? Thanks! Last edited by natrlhy; 10-26-2007 at 05:11 PM. |

I'd recommend downloading the lastest xvid, installing it, and making sure you set the option to have the xvid decoder decode divx/FOURCC/etc. content.
SageTVplayer is great for strange codec/container combinations that don't have direct show filters, but a simple avi with mpeg4 video should play find through the DirectShow player. Last edited by evilpenguin; 10-26-2007 at 05:23 PM. |

I'll install the lastest 1.1.3 version shortly.
Beyond setting those settings during the install, should I change the MPEG4 Playback option back to DirectShow? TIA |

Give it a shot after you've installed the newest xvid. I think it should start working for you.

No luck yet...
So I installed and ensured 1.1.3 xvid was associated with FourCC, etc decoding, however I still see no video when playing a SageTV compressed and recorded TV show with DirectShow set in the Setup...

Why then would you want to keep installing stuff? Isn't SageTVPlayer giving you good playback with very little CPU usage? |

Just trying other's suggestions. But yes, I am still using the SageTVPlayer. If there is something else that others are using that is more universal and flexible, I'd like to utilize that if it's a viable option.
