SageTV "No Video" after upgrading HDHR and SageTV
Hello all,
I am hoping that someone can help. I have opened a trouble ticket with the HDHomerun folks and I am told that they are working with Sage to fix this issue but I am hoping to bootstrap this process. I have been down for over a week now. So the long story goes as follows.. Over a week ago I noticed that all my HD recordings had major stuttering with poor audio after working perfectly all summer. Hoping to solve this I upgraded HDHR's firmware and software as well as SageTV to their respective latest versions. Since then I have not been able to get my system to work. All I get from SageTV is that there was no signal. To date I have done the following (after reading the various forums) 1. Completely uninstalled SageTV (both client and server) and HDHR 2. re-installed everything from scratch 3. Re did the setup for channels etc 4. Re-setup capture devices in sage (the HDHR devices show up just fine) 5. Re-mapped the channel #'s as per the new scan using just the first # (2 through 9) But no Joy .. I then 1. Shut down all sage executables 2. deleted all lines containing mmc/encoders from my sage.properties files 3. added debug_logging=TRUE to the properties files 4. launched sage I noticed that all my encoders were removed so I went ahead and started the to set up the tuners as per instructions found at http://www.silicondust.com/wiki/hdho...s/sagetv_cable Unfortunately I cannot get beyond step 3 as sage never returns from the preview step. Choosing "Digital TV Tuner" again makes no difference. See attached 1-3.bmp I see the following errors in the log file (full file is attached) Quote:
Any one seen this? Thanks for your help |

What OS version are you using (XP SP2, Vista, Mac, Linux)
Are you running as a Full Administrator? Have you tried temporarily disabling your PC firewall software? I'm assuming that you are using the SETUP programs only on your Server box, that you can view channels using the HDHR Setup Program in the channel editor section. Note: As you've noticed, the SiliconDust setup has changed from connecting as a Network Encoder to utilizing Microsoft's Broadcast Driver Architecture. You may need to make additional exceptions to your Windows Firewall to allow Program or Port access, expecially "SageTV Service.exe" if you run your server in service mode (background). I am using XP on both my server and client and all firewalls are disabled. And yes I have gone through the new setup for HDHR

Can you also, using the HDHomerun Config (GUI) app [Upgrade tab], verify what firmware version you have loaded. I've noticed that the setup program doesn't always upgrade the firmware to the latest for some reason.

I am 100% certain that I have . scn in my SageTV dir. I will have to check on the name though when I get home tonight. These were created by HDHR automatically.
The HDHR software version is 20071015 and firmware version is 20071015, I upgraded these 2 days ago |

nkd, As a test I downloaded and updated my setup to the x86_20071015 drivers and firmware, adding a couple of Music Choice audio channels and configured SageTV. The latest drivers work fine and no issues adding the music channels, though I may need time to recover from listening to 80s soft rock. <Ugh>
I also went into Setup Video Sources and did a 'channel scan' (alternative setup method) to see if SageTV will pick up the files from the HDHR setup program (This is where the two .scn files come into play, otherwise they're not used). The 'channel scan' found the 23 channels I selected in the HDHR setup program and presented them to me in their xx-yy logical channel and the xx-yy-zz physical format (that's why I don't like channel scan -- and this process is no longer recommended). The VIEW button successfully tunes the channel and delivers the video, audio and signal strength without issue. Normally you'd skip this scan process and just remap the Physical channels to the xx channels you created in the HDHR Setup app and be able to click the view button to test but from what you've said it sounds as if your setup isn't even working even at this point, so it looks like it may be an issue with a SageTV misconfiguration, bad files, bad BDA driver install, or problems finding the .xml remap file necessary to connect with your HDHR. You've probably done this upteen times already, but I'd suggest redownloading the HDHR Setup from Silicon Dust, and with SageTV shut down run the setup and in the Support Tab click reinstall the Windows BDA components. Make sure that no Firewall is running and that any Antivirus app is disabled (Norton AV has elements that sometimes blocks TCP/UDP traffic). While the HDHR Setup program is still running, verify that you can view a couple of the selected channels. Launch SageTV on the Server and configure your tuners in "Setup Video Sources". Once you've remapped with a physical channel then test it using the VIEW button. If this process isn't successful then the issue is probably more complicated and it might be easier to delete and reinstall SageTV, or reinstall XP and SageTV. I'll let others chime in here to see if they have any other suggestions before you need to head off on that route. Last edited by Conejo; 10-18-2007 at 06:02 PM. |

I'm having similar problems, but my SageTV actually tunes one channel only, the rest I get no signal. I'm thinking of reporting it to tech support also, but please post if you have this figure this out.

Thanks for your experiments Conejo ... I will try a complete re-install of Sage and HDHR again, but I suspect I am looking at a re-install of XP and starting fresh. Fortunately this machine is a server so other then SageTV and HDHR I only have couple more apps

I didn't know you had two Ethernet ports running. Though you said it didn't make a difference, I'd recommend you put the HDHR on the same LAN as your internet connection for testing.
I just recently popped in a second NIC to reduce traffic collisions from my HDHR and it took a while for me to get the setup 'right'. One of my issues is my stubborness and ilk of letting a device time-out and Auto-IP. Luckily the folks at Silicon Dust have written the two-NIC setup to work pretty much automagically, and it does work if I keep my fingers out of it. I wasted two hours being stubborn. <mantra>Just let it time-out, relax, don't worry about it, it's not my concern...</mantra> I hope JAFA can give you some feedback. Sooooooo!!!!
This has been a very disappointing day As expected I had to re-install XP; twice The first time around Sage would crash every time I tried to setup HDHR capture device. Thinking that this could be because I had stripped down XP with nlite I reinstalled full blown XP again. But I still get the crash. I see that Java is creating a crash log (attached) with the following in the header # # An unexpected error has been detected by Java Runtime Environment: # # EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION (0xc0000005) at pc=0x050b55f9, pid=2920, tid=2988 # # Java VM: Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (1.6.0_03-b05 mixed mode, sharing) # Problematic frame: # C [DShowCapture.dll+0x155f9] # # If you would like to submit a bug report, please visit: # http://java.sun.com/webapps/bugreport/crash.jsp The first time around I did try to use the "new" DShowCapture.dll posted on the forums with no luck Somebody, please help |

Yuck.
For TESTING, try each of these (Close and restart SageTV on each test) (1) Use the original 'DShowCapture.dll' that comes with the SageTV installer (2) SageTV has 'Full Screen Exclusive: Disabled' (Detailed_Setup>Advanced) (3) SageTV has 'Video Renderer: Overlay', 'MPEG2 Video Decoder Filter: SageTV MPEG Video Decoder' (Detailed_Setup>Video/Audio) (4) Try downloading the latest version of Microsoft Directx9 |

just a thought, when you reinstalled XP and SageTV, did you reimport your wiz.bin and sage.properites files back into it or completely start from scratch? Also, does the HDHR work in VLC?
