MCE Remote: Spurious "Start" button inputs received by Sage
Hi,
I have a very strange and anoying problem with my Microsoft MCE Remote connected to SageTV 6.2.10 on Windows XP Pro SP2. For some reason, Sage is very often receiving the "Start" button command from the remote, taking Sage back to the home screen. This can happen at any time but mostly appears to happen when using the MCE or other Remote. For example if I try to navigate to the Settings screen and start changing Settings, I will more often than not have to use the "Back" button to get back to where I want to be several times because Sage will keep jumping back to the home screen. I think it's got something to do with interference that the MCE Remote Receiver box is picking up, but so far it's been pretty hard to isolate. This sounds bizarre but if I turn all of my remotes around so they're facing away from the TV/HTPC, it seems to behave itself. Has anyone else had a problem like this? Is there any way to un-map the "Start" button in Sage to test this? Any way people can thing of of 'debugging' the input from the remote to try and get a better look at what's being received? The interesting thing is I was running MediaPortal before SageTV which did NOT have this problem. Any suggestions greatly appreciated. Ed Last edited by EpaL; 10-03-2007 at 04:22 PM. |

You are.
I would look at a sticking button on the remote. Go into Detailed Setup-Commands and unlink the button from the command. Gerry

Thanks for the reply. The remote is fine - there are no sticky buttons. I had been using this remote without issue with Media Portal for several months.
Its only since I went to Sage that I started having the problem. The problem is random too and can occur without hitting a button, but it usually happens when surfing through menus or the channel guide. The result is always the same as pressing the "Start" button on the remote - Sage goes back to the Home screen. I've tried going into Setup -> Commands -> Show SageTV Commands linked to Infrared/Keystroke but this has so far proven nothing (besides, "Home" simply exits this screen so it isnt very useful for picking up noise). The only thing I can think of is IR noise. The red light on the IR receiver is on quite alot, and flashes seemingly randomly without any remote buttons being pressed. |

I've heard of this before. It's caused by bad drivers from the wireless keyboard usually. It's sending spurious 'home' commands to the SageTV app.

Thanks for the reply. I do have a wireless keyboard but its an Adesso RF (2.4ghz) wireless keyboard, not the Microsoft MCE keyboard. I have tried removing the USB receiver for the keyboard but it doesn't help. The biggest problem I see is the red light on the MCE Remote IR sensor is always on or flickering, even when nobody is using a remote. I've tried moving it further away from the Plasma (or any other device for that matter) but it hasn't really helped. I've also tried the replacement MCE IR Remote drivers, but they won't install for my receiver for some reason. Ideally i'd like to get some way of detecting what data is being received by the IR receiver to allow me to be isolate the cause. That being said this worked absolutely perfectly with Media Portal, so there must be something in Sage that is picking up these spurious commands and acting on them. Is there a way to get Sage to dump/debug/display raw IR information? Any help appreciated. This is driving my wife and I nuts! Thanks, Ed |

I know this is an old thread but it describes my current issue. Just about any type of playback button I press halts the video and sends me back to the home screen during playback. I don't have a wireless keyboard. I'm running XP pro. The drivers installed themselves when i plugged it in.
