consensus recommended hardware

i'm trying to figure out if there's a listing of recommended hardware specs for the following:

--standard def backend server only

--standard def combo backend and frontend

--high def backend only

--high def backend+frontend

--high def frontend only

just to clarify what i mean....backend would be a system that has tuner cards only, and frontend would be with some sort of video out to the tv, and combo would be both obviously.

i know there are recommended hardware specs for sage, but i guess i was wondering if anyone had ever compiled a list of what has worked the best for the masses here in the various situations i mentioned above. i know a lot of people list their specs in their signatures....has a consensus list ever been compiled?

I don't think a concensus has been compiled. But as far as a HD front and backend it also matters if you plan on using MVPs. MVPs would need the HD recording transcoded so in the backend server you would want the fastest and most processors your wallet could afford. Mucho memory too.

Nowif we could only get those HD extenders we heard about......

As soon as one would be compiled it would be antiquated anyway...

Basically your sources, storage and clients will dictate everything.

If you have services from your cable company and you leave them MPEG2 you don't need much to make this work. You can get hardware support for all incoming and outgoing feeds. This however will eat hard drives.

It could be different with Sat providers as well.
