All of my MVPs are D2A firmware. The newer MVPs are advertised by Sage to work with version 5 and above, and sure enough, will not work with version 4 which I use. The firmware in all of my MVPs is Version 1.0, and boots without showing the rectangular blocks at the bottom of the screen. The newer firmware has these blocks as progress indicators, and will not boot with my version 4 Sage system.

I guess the remaining question is whether D3 or E1 firmware will work with 4 or not.

I considered upgrading to version 5 or 6 Sage, but I see threads on this foirum indicating that new problems begin to arise with the later versions, and I know it took me a really long time to get my 4 PCs and 3 MVPS to work correctly and I don't want to start over again with all of the various problems I encountered going from version 2 to 3 to 4. I guess what I am really looking for are a few more D2 MVPs if I can find them, or a patch to allow the newer MVPs to run on Sage 4, or someone who uses the newer D3 or E1 firmware MVPs on Sage 4 succesfully.

Thanks again for your help tipster,

Larry

Your welcome Larry!

D1 I found that to be one of the better MVP D3A okay too, but the E1 has the blocks. Don't know about my E1M. I use one Heilus Coax RF(using RG6 Digital End Coax provided) to 13" CRT Color in my home gym PQ is excellent. I did download the 4 I was going to try it out with my 7 MVPs and see if it works? Is the 4 more stable than the 5?

i have not used version 5 so I am not sure how stable it is. The final 4 release is very solid and i have been using it for well over a year with no real issues. This is why i dont want to switch 6 other units here just to add another MVP. 4 has weather and good TV and multimedia so I plan to stick with it. Thanks again for the help tipster,
Larry

Which version of 4 are you using? The one with SAGETV MVP Client or the one with the free MVP Client. I am having trouble with 5 so I'll just start with a fullversion about to order it, but are there any promo codes for this Quarter?

Hi tipster,

I am using Sage version 4.1.9.80 installed in early 2006, along with 3 PC clients and 3 MVPs. I was not aware of any free MVP arrangement, and purchased 3 MVPs from Sage with client licenses for each one. I also am not aware of any discount codes offered by Sage.

My server runs month after month witrh no issues. All of my clients run fine as well, but I only boot the PCs when I am using them, and do a complete shutdown (rather than Hibernate or Standby) when I am done using them, so they normally are up only a few hours at a time. All works great, but it took a lot of tweaking to get it the way I want it, as well as some network arrangements to get it all just right.

Hope this answers your questions and thanks again for your help.

Larry

Larry,

Prior versions up to 4 can use the free client for MVP your version and up can't use it.. Well 5 works the same way I mean I just use it to record on 3-pvr-150. I do have a 4-PVR-150 but that 1 uses a different REV number and it doesn't seem to work with when all 4 are installed. So I use that in other PC to watch Live TV. STV 5, I don't use it for anything else just recording. It runs 24/7 and I use O&O Defrag Pro 10 on automatic smartdefrag mode does a good just on the clustering on the HDDs. I also use the SAGETV WebServer to add and remove new schedules. I was using SAGETV Clients on PCs but the WebServer is faster. I use WS with VLC to watch my recorded media on any PC in the house through IE 7 browser. Wireless laptops or desktop no matter where I am it works.

I also have 2 wired- heilus MVP and 5 wired Hauppauge MVP one is wireless using a wireless drop connection that has a 4-port wired switch. I just connect the wired MVP into that as shown here which makes the mvp now wireless: to the left is a buffalo wireless eithernet converter you do not connect that with any wired ethernet patch cable. As long as you have wireless signal that all you need. Now to the right is Hauppuage Media MVP D3A. I didn't want to run more ethernet patch cord cable CAT 5e into the kitchen/dinning room area. This is the best way to go, I going install another onto kid/dog are room. So the dogs can watch their dog shows on Animal Planet.

Well I thought I had a complete Sage system but yours is really sweet. I have wanted to add anoither PVR or 2, and also considered doing some wireless as well. I have also never tried the Webserver, but it definitely something I will try next.

Please let me know of any results you may discover with the Helios, and I hope that version 4 is as stable for you as it has been for me.

BTW, I think the dog / Animal Channel arrangement is completely amazing. I know a Siberian Husky here who would LOVE to be able to do the same (-;

Best regards and thanks again Tipster,

Larry
