.edl vs .txt
Currently using ShowAnalyzer on a server dedicated to Sage. ShowAnalyzer is generating .txt files but I am wondering if the .edl's are any better ? Also, if the .edl's are the way to go, what's the best way to change ? There are a lot of videos on the server.

Someone wrote a txttoedl.exe program that I used long ago to convert all my .txt file to edl if you like I'm sure I could get it to you if you don't have it.
I don't even remember the reasons for changing as I did it so long ago and never looked back so someone else will have to answer that part. |

You can also load each video in my VideoEdit plugin and then choose the format to save the cut files in. (TXT, EDL or Vprj).

There's a txt to edl converter here
The reason edl files are more accurate is that there is at least 1 conversion from frame to time involved when using txt files. (with the resulting rounding errors). There may also be another one involved in creation of the file. (I don't know how the various programs create the files). John |

Overall there is a significant accuracy improvement switching to .edl
Show Analyzer doesn't get any more accurate at detecting commercials, its just the actual point of skipping that becomes more accurate. using .txt I would watch 1-2 seconds of extra commercial or lose 1-2 seconds of show. When switching to .edl, this is almost non existent. I highly suggest the switch.

Move from txt to edl
SageTV is currently using txt files generated by ShowAnalyzer to deal with commercials. My understanding is that edl files are more accurate. If true, then what is the best way to migrate from txt to edl ?

There is a utility here TxtToEdl to convert, then grab the Comskip plugin

Why not just tell Showanalyzer to generate .edl files instead of .txt files?

Did that and now there are lots ot txt and edl files. I think the new comskip STV will use either edl or txt, so that's what I'm using.
