Please say I didn't waste 80 dollars :-)

WOOOOOO!!!! Update

I am running the client eval on my laptop, this beats mythtv hands down, plus a foot. Gonna get my orders in for media extenders today

I want to switch to sagetv, my wife likes the interface more, and the guide information updates are still free.

I have been running a mythtv system for a few years now and all in all, like it. I was able to get hardware encoding and decoding and output to my tv all from my pvr-350 on a p3-400 with only 256 megs of ram. I know I can't do tv out from my 350 with sagetv and I accept that. However, since I don't have any tv out cards, or any cards that support video overlay, beyond the 350, that are worth it for watching tv(onboard ati it turns out in the system I am trying this in)it is hard to test how well it even works.

I honestly plan to go to media extenders, just to get the eye sore of pcs by televisions out. However if the output is as choppy as it is on the p3-400 linux box, its not feasible.

Now if this all works, I am going to be putting it on an 850mhz Xeon system, but I don't want to rebuild my home server, unless I have to.

I also plan to get the placeshifting(I travel alot and this would be a godsend), but again, how well would it work.

Is there a 15 day trial of the windows client I could use to try to connect back to my current linux sagetv system to see how it works? If that worked well I would have more confidence that the media extenders would work as fashioned and I would probably wind up buying the client as well as the placeshifter as well.

You'll need a faster server machine to transcode to the placeshifter, at least a 2.6Ghz P4 machine.

hmmm, thanks for that info. I will test the free 15 day trial once I get the Xeon system set up.
