Media extender continuous pixelization
I am having trouble watching anything through my media extender. There's always pixelization whenever there is lot of movement in the video(btw, if the frame is completely replaced with a new frame I don't see the problem, I guess I am talking about the I-frame) but whenever there are rapid incremental changes then I do see the problem. This is making my media extender totally unusable.
Also to note, if I do placeshifting on a pc with the same server configuration this doesn't happen. I've tried with both medie externder conversion quality on the server setup to no avail. I've searched this forum for any answers and I don't see anybody had similar issues. So it looks my issue is an isolated one. Has somebody seen this problem and know about a quick way to fix this? I am using a wired mvp Thanks, -Jana Last edited by rjana; 09-01-2007 at 12:06 PM. |

Check your network, you could be having packet loss.

Problem solved
Thanks for the hint. My NIC tcp/ip checksum offloading options were enabled and due to some problem they were putting incorrect checksum into the tcp packets randomly. Disabled checksum offloading and voila all my streaming issues went away.

Problem reappeared
Spoke too soon. The problem reappeared again.
Ran a wireshark dump again and the tcp stream looks ok. So I don't think the problem is network now. Something else is wrong. -Jana |

See http://wiki.wireshark.org/TCP_Checksum_Verification Did you try to ping the extender for a couple of minutes to check if you are loosing packets?

What are the capture settings?
What are the compression settings? What server OS, CPU and operating memory? |

Sorry for the delayed reply. I was offline for the weekend.
The capture source is both a network encoder and hdhomerun sd digital channels. All of them are mpeg2-ps video Server is running XP pro running on a intel core 2 duo running with 1GB memory |

@waltraud:
Yes, that's what I thought after seeing the problem again. I did try ping with veraious packet sizes earlier and didn't lose packets but when I got wireshark dump indicating that there were tcp checksum issues, I just assumed that there was a problem with the tcp payload which I thought may not have been detected in ping tests. Thanks, -Jana |
