Performance Issues, I think

Hey guys,
I am having probably not a strange problem, but a problem. As I am watching live TV, about every 30 seconds or so the screen seems to skip or a small studder. It's pretty aggravating. Also, every once in a while SageTV seems to almost freeze up, meaning MAJOR freezing so much so that the audio sounds like screeches. I have to stop and restart Sage to clear this up. I don't know if that makes sense I don't know how else to describe it.
It seems like ever since I bought my plasma I've never been able to get things just right. Always some type of problem.
I have my Video settings like this:
Video Renderer: VMR9
MPEG2 Video Decoder: NVIDIA Pure Decoder
MPEG4 Playback: DirectShow
DXVA MPEG: Default
DXVA Deinterlacing: Default
DScaler Deinterlacing: Disabled

Any help would be great. Thanks,
Dana

Only on the Sage client, if it's a "client".
I have Sage running on the computer next to the TV. I couldn't figure out a good way to explain this. I hope you understand.

Thanks for the quick reply.

Does it stutter if you use overlay instead of VMR9? Yes, SageTV on the PC is considered a client.

Yes, it's worse in Overlay. I checked my Task Manager and in overlay SageTV was going up to 60%-70%. I changed it to VMR9 and I've seen it as high as 24%.
Thanks, just wanted to make sure we are talking about the same thing.

If I have this problem, I would check the following:

- VMR9/Overlay
- Decoders, switch beteen different decoders to see if it makes any diference
- Check nVidia Driver, either upgrade or downgrade to more stable version.
- Restore all settings to default, including STV. Fastest way is to move the sage.properties file out of the SageTV folder and let SageTV create a new one when you start it.
- Check Java version, either upgrade or downgrade to more stable version.

If all of those fail, I'd request tech support from SageTV.

Hi Maya,
I just noticed something last night. The lines are on the MVP also. Would that changed anything on the possible problem?

I would check the source video, play it with another media player such as WMP or VLC, see if it stutters also.

I will try that, but I do have a question or a comment.
I notice that the lines seem to be worse on the higher channels, through the cable box. Is there any way to test this on the VLC through the cable box I mean? I think I've tested this through WinTV because I couldn't figure out how to test it through VLC.
