Technically no. The client doesn't record anything itself. It sends a request to the server to initiate any/all recordings. However, this is all behind the scenes and the user just records/views programs through the client.

HI Mike, thank for your response. I'm a little confused.
Here is my setup at home and need a little help.. I have 2 computers and a NAS box setup. I want both computers to be able to record live TV. one is in the living room...the other in the bedroom. I want them both to have access to the same materials. Music and Movies are on the NAS box. I want to update movie database metadata info via imdb plugin and it is reflected on both pcs. thanks again for all your help. |

While that's possible, it's more expensive and more complicated to set up than a normal Sage setup in which all the recording happens on one machine. So the question is why do you want to be able to record in both places? If you put two capture cards (or one dual-tuner card) in the server, you'll be able to record two channels at once and watch two different programs on the two different computers.
If you're recording from a set-top box, you have several choices: 1. Move all the STBs to the server, and do all your live TV watching through Sage, so you won't need an STB at the client. 2. If you want to be able to watch live TV directly off the STB without going through Sage, keep an STB at the client for that purpose, and then add enough STBs at the server to record as many simultaneous programs as you need. 3. Leave the client STB where it is, install a capture card in that machine, and set it up as a network encoder. You need a second full license of SageTV (not SageTVClient) for this, and all the recording is still controlled by the single SageTV server. This doesn't give you any additional recording capabilities that the other two options don't give you; it's just a way of allowing the server to remotely access a capture card over the LAN in case you can't consolidate them all in one machine for whatever reason.
