loss of sound

I am having a problem with sound. I will be watching a recorded show and suddenly the sound will cut out. I can rewind, fast forward, pause, nothing restores it. The only way to restore the sound is to let it keep playing, then suddenly the picture freezes for a second or two, and everything goes back to playing normally (with sound). There is no way to recreate it, it seems random.

I am running with a pvr-250. I had everything working without this issue for about a month, then my HD crashed. I am now running a fresh setup on a new, but identical HD.

I have messed with the audio decoder options and it doesnt seem to help.

Are you running the latest PVR-250 drivers from Hauppauge?

I thought I had the new drivers installed, but I looked and they were old. I must have messed up something in the install. (funny how I got it right a month ago when I was being careful)

I put the new ones on and will see if it clears up.

thanks for the tip.

Have you tried just the default audio codecs?

yea, I tried pretty much every combinastion availabe. I just installed the nvdvd decoder and im going to see if it happens. It doesnt give me good picture quality, but it will help me trouble shoot the problem.

Well I tried the nvdvd decoder and the problem did not go away. Anyone have any other ideas? Its really strange. Sometimes I can watch a full show without the issue sometimes it happens multiple times in a show. If I rewind and go back over the same part of the show it goes right through without a problem so I know the recording is fine.

Right now I have it set on "great" recording. In the past, before this issue, I had no problem running Dvd Standard or Great.. I suppose I could roll it back to "good" to at least see if it goes away.

Ok, last post. I solved my problem and wanted to post the solution in case someone runs across a similar problem in the future...

I updated the hard drive controller card drivers and that solved my problem.
