Audio codec diagnosis
Since I did my last nuke and pave I've been unable to get DD or DTS passthrough to work and I've decided to tackle this problem next.
The first problem that I've run into is that I can't figure out which audio decoder is being used for DVD playback and live TV. The nVIDIA decoder settings don't have their audio tab and there are no other system tray icons. How do I figure out what's being used when there's no indication anywhere? BTW recorded MPEG files are using the nVIDIA audio decoder but DVD and live TV aren't so that's no help. I've tried dragging a .vob file into graphedit but it just hangs.

Open Windows Media Player. Select the Options from the Tools menu. Goto the DVD tab. Click the Advanced button. This will open whatever is your default audio decoder. If, as you already stated, it is not the nVidia decoder, it is likely the AC3Filter.
Edit: In past versions of WMP (past from whatever I am currently running), I did notice that the audio decoder used was media dependent. ie, if I opened a DVD in WMP and used the above steps I could set the nVidia decoder to be used, but I also had to do the same thing for an MPEG file as well to get that set. Not sure if it still holds true, but thought I should throw it out there.
