Returming To SageTV: Hauppauge USB PVR2

I used to run sage on my old desktop with a pvr-150. I sold that system a while ago and my new cable company claims that they don't have any DVR boxes and wont for some time.

I have a Toshiba satellite a135-s2266 notebook and want to know if I can use the MCE version of the Hauppauge PVR-USB2 with SageTV on Windows XP Pro?
My Notebook came with Vista Ultimate but I had to many compatibility issues.


System Specs:

Intel Celeron M 1.73GHz
1GB DDR2 Memory
80GB SATA Hard Drive
128mb ATI 200m Xpress
Windows XP Pro (Can Upgrade to Vista Basic If Needed, but ultimate is to slow)

There shouldnt be any problem running the USB-PVR2 on the laptop. Do you have any other tuners running?

None at all yet. I was just concernd that the Media Center Version of the PVR USB2 mite not work under XP Pro. I can get the Media Center Edition for about $30 bucks less than the regular PVR USB2!

I am not sure. I am running a USB PVR2 I bought from Circuit City and its working fine in win2k3 server. I would think that it should work just fine with XP. You should only need the drivers installed for it to work. I don't have the wintv app or anything else installed.

If you buy it from a store then you can give it a shot and see. If not it can be returned. I personally think it can work though. I have used a PVR-150 MCE with no problems in winxp pro.

MCE is XP (near enough). The MCE versions of Hauppauge products are cheaper because they don't have a remote or blaster - it assumes you have your MCE remote. It will come with drivers only, which is fine with most Sage systems. If you need the remote, get the full version.

I've run Sage v5 on a 1.6GHz Pentium-M lapto, XP Pro, with 1GB RAM, with the Hauppauge PVR USB2 tuner. And two USB2 hard disks. Also a 80GB partition on the laptop's 2.5 in. drive. Except for the OS partition, all are at 64KB block sizes. Laptop Is quiet and has been reliable. Laptop's S-video out goes to TV. Latop sits with its lid closed.
