Need Some Help: HVR-1300 analog tuning with sat

Hi

Popped a Hauppauge HVR-1300 into my Sage trial machine today. Connected rf out from my Sky receiver and tunerd Hauppauge WinTV application to Channel 68. Perfect Pciture.

Shut down WinTV, started Sage and set up the HVR as a source device. However, no matter what settings I input during set up, I cannot get the picture in sage. the manual makes it a fairly simple process and I have set the RF channel in Safe for the device to 68. All i get is snow.

I find this frustrating as last week I managed to get a graph built for another device and configured via UNE - fasirly complex stuff. Yet i cannot get a simple analog tuner to show a picture.

Searching here I find that HVR-1300 is not supported but many people appear to be using it.

Any advice appreciated.

So, to ask this a simpler way;

If I can tune a Haupauge card to Rf Channel 68 in WinTV, what are the steps to have SageTV 6 tune to the same channel.

Well, I figured this out and am posting here so that future users with the same issue might find the solution more quickly. This is particularly relevant to users in Europe with SKY boxes.

Many thanks to forums user Neo for responding to a PM that set me on the right road.

The issue is that the Hauppauge HVR-1300 is not listed as supported by SageTV. Installing the card and using the Hauppauge WinTV software, I could tune to the RF output on my sky digibox (I knew it was channel 68). However, setting up the card as a source in SageTV resulted in just static.

The cause of this is that SageTV uses MS Directshow tuning settings and if they do not match reality no picture will be displayed. (Hauppauge uses an internal tuning system not related to the MS tables). Here's how I got around the issue;

1. Download FreqShifter (http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/show...ht=FreqShifter)

2. Open WinTV and access the tuning window. The default setting is to tune by country. Change this to tune by frequency.

3. Run a full frequency scan (can take some time). This should find the actual frequency of the signal from the sky digibox. In my case it was 874.5 MHz for channel 68

4. Open FreqShifter. Select your country (the one you have specified in SageTV set up), select cable and click load (should be blank).

5. Enter your RF channel and the frequency obtained at step 3 (in my case, 68 & 874.5)

6. Hit save. (I also saved the data in the antenna setting as well - can't hurt)

7. Open SageTV and set the source to use channel 68. You should have picture!

What you've just done there is overwritten windows registry entries to tell sageTV that channel 68 is coming in on 874.5MHz. Easy!

Now all I need to do is figure out how to load the EPG and change channels on the Sky box......
