Any SageClient folks have device driver issues?
I'm having some form of device driver issue on my SageClient box that I'm having issues finding. When I'm watching a show, the system will freeze, XP will reboot, and report "System has recovered from a serious error". The reporting dialog box pulls up a an IE Window that then says it's likely a device driver, but no specifics available.
I'm running: - Asus A7V600 - XP Home - Matrox G550 [which I've never been able to get OSD to work - I have to hotkey between full-screen TV mode and small-screen I can see the Sage forward/backward/etc icons but no picture] I only have the issue when I'm in TV mode, watching on my analog 27" in clone mode. The only things of note in the tray are Girder, Cineplayer, Asusprob, and Matrox' QuickDesk [or some name like that]. I have the latest Asus drivers [as of 6 weeks ago]. Now that I type this, I'm thinking I should try disabling Asusprob; haven't tried that yet. System runs plenty cool - CPU tops out at 42 degrees, mobo is never over 38. I'm @work - I'll try that tonight. Any other ideas? |

If XP is rebooting automatically, you should be getting a Stop Error. If this is the case, I would track down that error code and work from there...it should hopefully narrow it down to a hardware or software issue.
If you don't see a Stop Error on the screen just before the system reboots, you might need to change your 'Startup and Recovery' settings in Control Panel-->System-->Advanced tab. You may need to temporarily uncheck the 'Automatically restart' option so you have a chance to see what the Stop Error code is next time it happens. I'm not positive, but check the Event Log as well to see if the Stop Error code is listed in there. A typical Stop Error would look something like this: 'Stop 0x0000000A or IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL' In this example, the 0x0000000A would be the error code. It is usually followed by a generic (useless) description of the type of error that occured as well as some generic (useless) troubleshooting tips. At least 9 times out of 10, the Stop Error code will help to pin-point the exact problem...with a little help from Google The Stop Error code and the message that goes with it are usually generic and not really helpful, but a quick search on Google or on Microsoft.com for the specific Stop Error code you are getting should give you a good start at finding the cause. The most likely causes would be faulty RAM on the motherboard, a faulty PCI/AGP card, a RAM or PCI/AGP card not seated securely, or a misbehaving driver/service/software. If you need more help with this let me know...I haven't had a Stop Error yet that I wasn't able to resolve Other than that, you might try switching from the Sonic decoder to the Intervideo WinDVD or Cyberlink PowerDVD decoder. And maybe uninstall and reinstall the Matrox video drivers. If you are using older Matrox drivers, try upgrading to the latest...if you are using the latest Matrox drivers, try downgrading to the previous version. But without the Stop Error code you're pretty much flying blind.
